Homegrown CE lanyard

Thanks, Jimmy. I have seen the demo you posted, but I'm using the second thimble for my climb line, not for the lanyard.

I have a extra 6mm thimble thingy that I store on my saddle for my climbing line or CElanyard........picked up a small DMM bag to keep lanyard in and on the saddle, keep the draw string tight so lanyard rope dont get pulled out, hate when that happends..lol

you can tell how small the DMM bag is next to the carabiner and 6mm thimble

sweet post dude i got a CE lanyard for christmas last year, the longest they had at the time which i think was close to 16 ft. (now i think i saw they have up to 30 ft.) im an advocate of both the system and a good length of lanyard. i find that it works great to use as a second tie in for little excursions way out there ;) i appreciate your pics too as i try to get as many as i can when im in trees. i just ordered a 12 ft length of KMMIII black with a black snap just like you got from sherrill, which i plan to turn into a "homegrown CE" and id like to keep it in one of those DMM bags. i had been admiring that DMM ditty bag since i saw it on treestuff.com, what size is that you have there?

Put together a shorter 15ft. lanyard for smaller tree's with 12mm imori, havent tried it yet, so will see if I like the imori, hope its not to grabby with 28" beeline prus...

You could use an Alpine Butterfy knot instead of the Thimble Loop to set up in SRT. Either way, you'd have to go retrieve it. Yes, the butterfly would eat up some of the useable rope, but not that much. I just like the extra weight that Thimble Loop provides when advancing the lanyard.

I can't tell what your lanyard is doing that your climbing system wasn't. If you fell from there you would take one heck of a swing. If your lanyard was around the limb you were on it would be way less of a swing.

oceans, yes, that would work too...I just like drt, very easy removal of lanyard.... or 6mm thimble loop close to you in srt so you can un-hook it easy enough.

Nice set up there, thanks for the pic... I like the color scheme of that new rope! I don't think it will be to grabby especially after breaking it in. Some big ol' cones in those Digger Pines

Also, I like having a stopper knot at the very end of the lanyard, just for good measure.

I'm still curious about why your climbing system was slack and your lanyard was at an apparently similar angle. It looks, to me anyway, that you could have had your weight in your climbing system and had your lanyard around the branch close to you. IMO that would have been safer in the case of a fall.

Why are you so reluctant to answer my questions?

Ted, I think it's because how you ask them... must be a westcoast/eastcoast thing... no really... I think that limb was only a couple feet off the ground so no worries.

Lately I've been using two flip lines of various lengths. Found them useful yesterday, I single roped up a 100ft Pine, let the remaining 100ft dangle almost touching the ground. For the sake of productivity, I abandoned my main climb line and used one long and one short lanyard to reach the top of the tree, climbing the branches like a ladder. I'm starting to feel more comfortable working with two lanyards. It's a nice option. Anyway it was neat to reach the tippy top, used my ARS folding handsaw to cut through a 4" top, I through the top and the old antenna off the side, only later to find out it got stuck 40ft up an oak
