Home birthing hippies

We were hoping to have our first at our new home, however I did not have our house finished in time. We did go to a birth center and my wife had a water birth with no epidural. It was amazing for me to see what her body was capable of doing; she went into a trance like state for the pushing faze.

That's really cool. My wife was never so lucky. Her push phase for both home births was one continuous push and no "labor land". The plus side (she doesn't call it a plus) is that it was faster.

I highly recommend midwives and home births for low risk births. You get better care than a normal hospital birth and pay less money for it. There is a lot less stress involved if you just stay at home for it.

:sisi::sisi::sisi: I love blowing people's minds with the cost comparison. Home-birthing prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care < hospital stay for normal delivery without drugs or intervention.

It wasn't all peaches and cream since my wife was in labor for 41hrs. The funny part was that we were expecting a girl, since that is what an ultrasound technician told us we were having. 15 min after birth we found out we had a boy. We had to recall family members and let them know that Fiona was actually Jude.

With the current weather, and the cabin fever currently being displayed on the buzz, anyone want to start a pool on how many midwives will be employed by members of this site come Christmas?

Shit man, it's all badass. As tough as all of us tree guys like to think we are, nothing we will ever do holds a candle to giving birth, whether it's at home, with or without drugs or by caesarean. You watch a woman bring a life into this world and it leaves you dumbfounded.

Congrats Jon! We also had 2 VBAC's...way to stick it to ACOG!

Bits of our story is that my first was posterior with a gigantic head and she got stuck, so she was a C-section (in California).
2 years later in Tennessee, we learn that it's really hard to find OBGYN's willing to perform VBAC's with any sincerity. We found a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) who was a total badass - had her home all set up as a birthing center. Our second was born there after 4 hours of labor. Our third was born at home with a CNM, also a badass, here in Philadelphia. Incredible. The house was cleared out by midday - just the five of us at home. No beeping monitors, no crappy coffee.
3 healthy kids and a healthy wife. I'm a lucky man.

So cool to hear of so many fellow buzzers in the homebirth boat.

Hey Jon that's great to hear! Any chance of you and the family coming up to Bainbridge this year? Im hungry for some little baby toes, yum.

So...

Yeah we're due any day. And I wasn't snowed in.

We were planning a break, but oh well, guess that didn't happen. Looking forward to the new one. Another boy for my son and me to scare off in 15-18 years.
