Holy shit.

Did anybody see an undercut? Anywhere.
Who needs an undercut?
Keep the same cut going all the way around. As some one else mentioned, he left that strap in the back for a reason.

On short super fatties, we do it like that...except make a mini notch with no hinge/holding wood. Keeps it from rolling/being unpredictable, by giving it a flat edge to lever over. Less cutting, less struggles.

Not quite as large, but damn. I'd like to have a go at a tree that big. Nothing near that size grows in my territory.. and if it's even half that size logistics dictate crane removal.

Why wouldn't they just fell the whole tree? They clearly had LOADS of space and obviously weren't too concerned about screwing up the grass.

And 45 seconds to cut through one limb?! I feel like I could have done that faster with a handsaw

If I remember correctly it was at a golf course. They were going to be re-doing this area and it could be destroyed but not too far out from the base of the tree. That video was posted a long time ago. If Gord could of felled it he would have. There was a reasonable reason as to why he couldn't.

I think....at 1:25 he makes a small "undercut" It is in fast motion and hard to catch though. To me, it looks like he makes the initial cut low and shallow, pull the saw out and bores in above that cut, leaving a strap of sorts in the front to keep bar from pinching and so that the piece doesn't tear at his lanyard when the piece goes over.

I could be wrong, its hard to catch, but that makes sense to me

I think so cause I heard a crack.

We will some times make a bar deep "over cut" where the notch would be, many times another face cut half the depth of the bar deep horizontal cut...basically a super mini notch with the bottom cut, cut past. Then come from the back cut as an under cut under the mini notch with no holding wood. Work really well, eliminates cutting huge notches. Figured it out making snap cuts on large vertical wood, an messing up. Like having it roll off to a side, especially when you leave a strand of bark. Always under cut the back cut, or be ready to let go of the saw.
