Hollow strand eyes?

I just picked up some 3/8 Tenex for hitch cord and wanted to try splicing some eyes. All the instructions are in fid lengths, which I have none. Couple questions here. How long of a bury do I need for some i2i cords, and is this a relatively fool proof splice(am I risking life and limb not buying profesional spliced products)?

Any input greatly appreciated!!

With all splicing for life support you want to start out low and slow, just to make sure everything is going to react correctly. The best thing is to follow your instructions that you have as to burry length. I like the locking brummul (several may not, but I do) it makes it a little more secure, especially with just a climbers weight. Fid lengths for 3/8 (acording to samson) full fid 7 3/4 inch. I dont think you need it, but short section of fid is 2 7/8". I hope this helps.

TJinSC, your splices look fine, but I think the buries are a bit short. One fid length is 22 times the diameter of the rope, and Samson calls for 2 fid lengths for the the Class I hollow-braid splice. This would be 16.5 inches.

If your pictured splice is actually short, try pulling it apart with your truck and see what happens. When you see that it holds, it will give you great confidence in the security of the full-length bury.

I would suggest you might want to tighten up the eyes a bit as well if you plan to use this for an Eye/Eye lanyard.

Morays comments concerning the bury are spot on. In fact, considering that you are running straight buries on that piece using correct bury lengths is going to be even more important.

Congrats on the splice. Keep it up !!

If the splice is burried 16" on each side the whole prusic is going to be doubled. Is that going to affect the performance of the hitch as then it will be thicker than the climbing line, wouldn't it??
