Hobbs Tie-Off Hooks

Does anyone have tips on how to use the tie-off hooks??

I am confused after reading the label which said: "Use hook to change the rope direction. Secure the load by adding 4 wraps over existing wraps"o_O

So you can secure your suspended piece in place and let go of the rope to cut or do other work. Handy when hanging tip tied whole trees without a helper.

You're initially wrapping clockwise.

Sounds like you pull a 180⁰ turn and wrap counterclockwise 4 wraps to secure the rope.

Is this correct?

no
this way you would loose the wraps.

you do your 4-5 wraps (from the back to the front of the spool) and than wrapping in the same direction but over the first layer of wraps towards the back of the spool. than a couple of half hitches over the cleats..

2 layers of wraps.

What does it mean about changing directions?

Thanks.

i think it means: you start wrapping from the back of the spool towards the front, after 5 wraps you change direction and do your 4 wraps over the first layer towards the back of the spool, all wraps clockwise. than tie off.

at least that how i do it..

sorry if im confusing, might be able to snap a picture tomorrow.

Never used one but seems like it would be hard to hook the line around the tie-off hook at the back, then back up to the front of the spool to make wraps toward the rear.
