Hitch Hiker II Brand New

For what its worth, wraps grip and braids modulate. I just use wraps on my HHs hitch as I find it is easier to fine tune the grip because that is all they do. The dogbone and carabine sliding in their slots do a great job at modulating that grip, not dissimilar to how braids work for hitches in other systems.

maybe you've tried this, but if you want to work off of doubled rope after your ascent, you can tie a doubled rope system and switch the wrench over to the standing part of the line. That way it does not add friction and is also not flopping around. Keeps you from having to take it completely off and retying your hitch.
Will that work? I didn’t know you could do drt with the rope wrench.

Just for clarification, what I'm trying to put into words is to attach the wrench to the side with the arrow. That will allow your doubled rope system to work like normal.

As a disclaimer I do not climb on the wrench, but I have seen a wrench user do this. It seemed to work for him.

I do not own a wrench, so I cannot set it up, but basically undo your SRT set up, tie your doubled rope and set the wrench on the leg that is arrowed above. This way the wrench has no effect on your hitch
So that will create less friction so I can descend using drt and I won’t burn up my Prusik Cord?

I bend my RW down to compress the hitch when running DdRT, keeping it from eating my glove, like some people have used rigging rings (our friend down under), and a wooden ball (Brocky, IIRC).

This disengages the Wrench. The wrench generally adds too much friction, otherwise.

Andrew Joslin (@moss) published on vimeo, some time ago, a video named Winter white pine climb, in which you can see a demo of the technique described by Jehinten. It starts a bit before 6 minutes but the whole film is very informative and a real pleasure to watch. Don't miss the very end of this video!
