If you leave longer tails after the stopper knots, then you can form an attachment for the lower biner also, on both sides with the longer tails. This allows it to self advance DdRT.
Here is another idea using a stainless shackle (3/8") rated over 6000 lb. breaking strength (ala Richard M.), with a steel roller (5/8" dia.) from a size 80 ANSI roller chain link. It fits perfectly between the sides of the HH and allows for easier slack tending. what would be nice is if the shackle pin had a hole in the head of the pin that you could insert the tail of the hitch through for extra security.
Just a single overhand stopper? I thought double is recommended. The comment about the hole in the pin, inserting tail, extra security --- I do not understand.
In this config where does the tending tether go?
Yes a double knot is recommended. A rope through the head of the shackle pin would insure that it could not be unscrewed even in the unlikely event that the pin loosened. You would need a wide D shackle to have a tending tether for this configuration, although you can pull the HH along during ascent with just the shackle pictured.
