hitch climber

Im new to tree buzz and have a lot of questions. starting with what can u guys tell me about the hitchclimber and tachyon rope. I have seen mark use it and it looks a lot easier and faster than my traditional set-up. any input on this would be great. Thanks

i do not own a hitch climber, but have climbed on it before. it has its pros and cons, like any system, but over all i enjoyed it. on the other hand, i have 150 feet of tachyon, and love it! performs great, not heavy when foot locking or over halling it. not to much stretch either in it. I would recommend it.

I have both the tachyon line and the hitch climber. The tachyon line is nice but wore out to fast, even when using a friction saver 80 percent of the time.

As far as the hitch climber goes, I own a couple of them and use them for various scenarios. I love em and really can't think of anything bad to say about it. Use it to form a nice compact and simple slack tender. You can use a micro mouse pulley for half the price but in my opinion the micro mouse pulley isn't as sleek and actually keeps the legs of your eye n eye prussik too open which makes for multiple hitch dressings.

Do you use a spliced eye on your rope?

I own a few of these hitches and find them great. I can ascend with ease and have multiple tye-in points etc. Are there cheaper methods, I am sure but the convenience and versatility keep me with the hitchclimber.

If your going to 11mm rope I'd have to say that Samson's Volocity is by far a better rope IMO.

I do agree that velocity is a great line. It has a greet feel to it and is much easier to get a hold of but it does have a lot more stretch to it. I just ordered another bit of it cause I missed it so much.

The hitch climber and tachyon make an awesome combination I've been using both since christmas, and after coming from a plain old micro pulley, the hc is pretty sweet. All the different things you can do with it, like setting up the M system, a single attachment point for double crotching, whatever.

Tachyon is also an excellent. Ever since I was 4 or 5, I've been climbing on New England products and Tachyon is just another great rope they created. It holds knots very well, and is extremely smooth when used with some 10mm Bee Line and the hitch climber.

thank you guys so much for all the info! i was in class again today with mark and saw the hitch climber in action with 11mm rope & im def. switching to it. i guess ill just have to try different ropes to see what suits my needs. but it def seems like the way too go much easier than a tautline hitch

Yeah different ropes for different folks. Just try a couple different ones you find what you like. I have always liked NE, and found the tachyon is great, in the limited climbs i've had with it. I climb on Poison Ivy and Fly mostly, only cause i own the fly and the PI is provided for me at work.

The Hitch Climber is great, you'll find it to be great, i found its smoother than the Mickey Mouse, and with the extra hole its worth the extra coin, cause there is so much you can do with it.

Good luck with the new climbing system might take a little while to get used to but i can gaurantee it will be worth your while to try learn it.

yeah i ordered the whole thing today from the tree motion saddle right down to the karabiners and friction rope. the whole setup. gonna keep my old school "80's"stuff but definetly gonna try the cats [bad word] of gear cant wait. yes mark puts on a great class twenty plus yrs exp and still learned new age stuff look forward to more class anything to make my job easier

Too open? So the micro mouse pulley is wider or something? Thanks.
