High scrap metal prices!`

Around these parts anyway scrap metal prices are high, they (local scrap yard) will COME GET your junk car and haul it off, and you get 200 bucks! I remember getting 35 for cars hauled to them, so prices are way up.

What's this have to do with an aborist site? Not much, but for those with their own cranes, it can be good news. Lots of rural folks who would normally cling to their junkers (and maybe their religion and their guns, don't know...) are getting all recyclying conscious and cleaning out their junk piles that have been there for decades. It doesn't hurt that the scrap yard pays in cash.

This weekend I urged a friend who normally is a hoarder, to let me help him clean his place up. The IH crawler tractor, which hadn't run in a lot of years, weighed 9,000 lbs. or about $720.00 at the scrap yard. BUT, we ended up selling it to the guy we called to haul it (you have to go through a port of entry, and he could do it legal, with his tandem dual wheel 5 th wheel)and saved his drayage fee, and he got some new yard art for the scrap value. I made 300 cash for a few hours easy work, (picked up other stuff also) and my friends place looks a lot better. Easy money if you have the right equipment, and the regular work is a little slow.

My neighbor, a welder/blacksmith and I have been getting robbed blind in the middle of the night. They crashed in the door last week to his shop and took all his welding cable and a lot of other stuff. Recently they stold an attachment for my mini and 2 30 foot alum. ladders.

The city is crawling with metal theives. A friend of mine's son bought a house last month and before he could move in they stold all his plumbing. Thousands of dollars of repair and materials.

That is the neg of scrap up. You lose a lot of sleep hoping you get a shot at them going to your property in the middle of the night. Arrrgh.

I've heard stories of romex being pulled out of a house that was wired the day before, and guard rails off of bridges! I know when you spend any time at the scrap yard, it can be a pretty rough crowd there! They require photo ID before they accept anything nowadays.

Kroll was referring to meth freaks I'm guessing.

Aluminum is not up, steel is the thing.... go figure.

Just the other day I took a few things into the scrap yard, using my compact car, still got 18 bucks for less then 200 lbs, sure beats throwing it away or having it junk up the place!

I heard copper is so high that white-trash birth rates have risen . . . these guys are stealing the IUD's out of their girlfriends!

A week after this we come in the lot backing the crane in with my gm backing me up. My gm sees a new battery in the middle of the lot and a big filthy hillbilly jumps up from under one of the trucks. I see my gm walking him up to the crane cab and figure he is looking for work which happens often.

Then my gm says Dave he is stealing stuff. He says he just taking a leak (lol) in the lot and trys to break away. At this point I am out of the truck and my gm slams him on the ground and I jump on him and get him in a rear naked choke till he can't breath. This guy stunk bad.

N'bor's call the cops as they are coming out of their shops. The cops take about 20 minutes to get there. When I ask about this they say they were eating lunch and didn't think it was any big deal. The filthy thief gets 4 charges and his gf in the car gets heroin and paraphernalia charges.

They let him out that afternoon and he doesn't show for court the next morning.

2 days later we get a dump trailer stolen that was chained to a metal pole and likely cut with huge bolt cutters. Everyone I talk to around here has recently had metal and equipment stolen. We're working on security.

I got 120 bucks scrap Friday for a an old advertising sign that I was paid to take down at my usual crane rate, so the 120 was extra, sweet!
