here is a first try at a re-direct

Good job. You want to run both just like you did. There is also a pulley that you can use. I saw Tom describe it on another thread.

FYI you can pick up some Bluewater spectra slings that are lighter/smaller and use them as redirects. They have a breakng strength of 27kn which is roughtly 5900lbs so they fall into the safe use catagory. Plus they do not cost too much.

try using the webbing in a "basket" around the limb. clipping both end of the sling into the biner its strongest that way. The next strongest way is to spin the set up you demonstrated 180 degrees. instead of the webbing bending back 180 degrees against itself, have it come straight to you under the synching part of the sling. There's also some "cool" uses for that cmi pulley that can be used in your redirect set up.....

I agree about the FS at your TIP and if you want to carry one, a tandem pulley at the re-direct. I find that friction is the biggest problem with redirects... that and going back up to retrieve'em.

I don't agree about girth hitching the biner because you can overload one leg of the webbing if the angle changes much. You need some slippage in the system so the biner can move freely and keep the load balanced regardless of the angle of the sling.

The basket style hitch is better if your runner is the right size.

I've gotta try Norm's retrievable one, nice idea.
