It does seem complicated I agree. The reason I don't use a longer rope is because I don't like moving a lot of rope when I have to redirect. So I keep 120' in a small rope bag with a pre built anchor set up on top. Now can be lowered in an emergency and if I need more rope my groundy can let some out. Which brings me to the redundant anchor I use the prusik and an 8 combo so he has to work hard to drop me. Set up takes no longer than tying a running bowline and choking it around a tree because all you have to do is slap your shnazy sling around the tree, clip your always ready anchor to it, and tie your double fisherman knot. If you want to get slick you can throw in a couple of splices and a presto link now your rope connection can move freely through crotches should the mood strike.
