Health Insurance

I think Sweden won out as the place to live for best quality of life.

In 1968 I broke my leg flattrackn' motorcycles. Two operations and four days in the hospital cost me $522. In September, 2007 52 hrs. of hospital time for a heart attack cost me $45,000 and that doesn't include the surgeons bill. In between then and now we've had presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter , Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush. I'm not quite sure what happened between 1968 and 2007 but taking potshots at the current administration for the cost of health care is as silly as going back and blaming FDR. Also, while I don't know anything of life in Norway, Iceland, Austria and Canada, I do keep in touch with my German relatives and they suffer under heavy taxes to pay for a system loaded with entitlements. I have a cousin who had great difficulty finding work as an architect during her child bearing years because of the health benefits and leave privileges given to mothers. Good or bad? It's too complicated for me. but I know there's no free lunch and those that sit back and sneer and snipe and pretend that there is are either mislead or willing misleaders..
Just my opinion,
Phil

Hey Reed, why do you live in America? Why don't you just move to one of the countries you fantasize about?

Just curious.

'cause of family, connections, and nativity. None of which are the cause of, or dependent on the current state of affairs which isn't the America I grew-up in, defended once, or care to take part in anymore. Your actions and words indicate supportive desires to remain (without changing) the Malling of America and cheapening the bottom line (Chinese-made, American designed business models).

I intend on leaving, even have the ways and means and have researched extensively the options out there...many to choose from. Exit is partially delayed due to recent developments in Iowa - people seeking a change (big one) on how we are currently. Spoken thru the simple act of standing with groups either pro-corporate leadership or anti, pro-faith-based religious fanaticism or secular ideals.

My America was mom and pop, American made tools, jobs with promise, a barber and hardware store in every small town, and Union oversight that kept the Hills, Vanderbilts, and Cheney's at bay. EPA that had teeth, mining rules and logging with forethought, and wars conducted with Geneva rules and honor-bound men fighting, not mercs without standards or bombs without aiming...one couldn't even find promotion with a criminal background, now they recruit from the Crips and Bloods and fire indiscriminately into crowds of civilians. Pretty chickenshit and massive failures. That ain't AMerica and if you think so, you're part and parcel to what we've become.

Mine verses yours Butch, do nothing and keep espounding the virtues of something that isn't anymore and remain here, happily doped-up while it crumbles...I'll seek out functional horizons thank you. They are out there but some won't see them, as continued "we're the best", right?

I doubt a new administration, either elephant, arse, or other will change much. I certainly don't want them more involved in health care.

The cozy and fiscal relationships with the health care industry and some of our elected officials at least will be layed-out on the board, free-market insanity just might be checked. That wasn't possible with the last Administration, and had it's roots in the one before.

One reason Hillary losing in Iowa shows some promise and hopefully Edwards wins the NH crowd.

+1
Government runs everything to sh*t, why do you want them incharge of health care? Typically, the less they do the better for all of us.

Don't get me wrong, I love America, but if it was up to me a few things would be changed.
