Happy Father's Day!

Re: Happy Father\'s Day!

Thanks TH!

And may I also wish a happy father's day to the men who have encouraged, mentored, helped or otherwise invested time in a child who may not have been thier own.

Although you may not have been thier father, you have done a father's work. I salute and thank you folks too for it was men like you who help young bucks like me turn out OK!

Re: Happy Father\'s Day!

My Dad unknowingly but not accidentally got me involved in treecare. Besides camping and the usual Boy Scouts and hunting stuff he had me help him doing yardwork when I was in early grade school. Oak wilt was running through our neighborhood so Dad would be out in the yard with his Swede Saw felling the dead trees. Then he'd limb them and need them dragged into the woods and stacked. The brush piles became forts, caves, we'd excavate tunnels in the piles and king of the hill. During a snowy winter he'd burn the brush piles and start again in the spring.

When I was 12 the next door neighbor came over to ask my folks if I could help him with a tree job that Saturday. My folks then asked me and I said 'Yes!' I can only imagine how things would be different for me if they had told Marv that I couldn't work for him because I was too young.

Happy Father's Day, Dad, I miss you.

Dad @ 50, me @ 27

Re: Happy Father\'s Day!

Thanks guys. Oh and btw those are "clients" and the owner of the cat in my arms. I rescued that little guy 7 times!

I've got a blended family of 6 kids, my oldest daughter I adopted, 2 biological, my wifes 2 and my stepson's girlfriend who we have fostered though not officially. She's now part of the family regardless of whether her and our son stay together!

Hope you've all had a great day!

Those Winter Sundays
BY ROBERT HAYDEN
Sundays too my father got up early
and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold,
then with cracked hands that ached
from labor in the weekday weather made
banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him.

I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking.
When the rooms were warm, he’d call,
and slowly I would rise and dress,
fearing the chronic angers of that house,

Speaking indifferently to him,
who had driven out the cold
and polished my good shoes as well.
What did I know, what did I know
of love’s austere and lonely offices?

Re: Happy Father\'s Day!

Humper that sounds like the modern family and is a really nice thing. I was adopted from an orphanage in Halifax Nova Scotia, and am really thankful that I was so fortunate to be given such great opportunities by my adoptive parents. Happy father's day dad who passed in 2000. He was a great dad.

Re: Happy Father\'s Day!

We call it the NAFTA family. My eldest is in Mexico where she met her husband. The third daughter is in Canada where I'm originally from and my wife, kids and foster daughter are from the USA... Now that's free trade!
