HAPPY 4TH--Enjoy the Fireworks
Ever the dumb dum.....I drove over to my welder's to pick up my big old Gitzo tripod that needs some minor repair (even though he hadn't done it-it will work), packed it, a cheapo tripod, and a desktop mini-pod....Parked the car, went to grab the Gitzo and see that the quick release was at home, attached to my super-telephoto....Grrrrrr. Walked several blocks to the spot, and realized I'd left the mini-pod in the car....coulda walked back to get it, but what the hey...
So, I set my Pro-1 on the freeway railing, on my coat......and took a couple handheld videos with the little A710, and set it on the railing and let it run out the 5 minutes of remaining recording time. (Haven't yet downloaded that to the puter.) Set up the el-cheapo pod, which might weigh a pound, and isn't designed for a 42 ounce camera, and 1 to 4 pound lens. But was able to get some pretty good shots with it. Hadn't shot fireworks in years, so, it was mostly an exercise in experimentation. A couple of the wavy shots could be from the way some bursts spiraled out, or from vibration from trucks rumbling by.....For most of the show, I had the camera on 10 second delay. Near the end, I finally thought to set it to 2 second delay....wasted a lot of good photo opp's.....
I've been editing with the simple, easy, and free Picasa program. Photoshop (which I don't yet have a copy of) would be good for putting multiple images together...but there's a free Photostitch program that I might try...
Here's a coupla pics. And a slideshow...
