IBUKI!

Initial cost seems prohibitive, but once you lay both hands on that bad load and rip through a 5 inch Oak limb you'll never go back.

Sugoi. The longer one in the straight sheath.

I agree I have both the Sugoi and zubat. I have the shorter Sugoi and have modified for my personal needs, it was just too long for the trees here which have very dense canopies and would get hung up in other branches when cutting. It is now exactly 13" like the zubat which I reshaped the tip. Did not like the vine cutting stub on either saw, I just hold vines and cut, much faster. That being said the zubat has very aggressive teeth for bigger stuff but is not hardened, therefore dulls faster and needs changing more frequently. I have yet to change mine after a year of moderate use. The zubat is for smaller stuff where more precise cutting is required due to it more teeth per inch. It has a hardened blade and is very durable. Clean after use and they last. Hope this helps. There is an attached picture to show the slight mods. Paul.

Oh yeah also changed the shape of the sugoi's handle as it was always pulling out the leg scabbard. Low profiled the leg scabbard as it rubbed on my ankle and was generally too bulky.
Look for these items at Wesspur and see my differences. Don't mod them unless you feel the need to suit your usage. Paul.

I like the mod. Looks like you snipped the handle a bit (to keep it from being yanked out of the sheath by dangling rope loops?). What I like about the Sugoi is how easily it can be sharpened with a flat chainsaw file. Using a thumbnail as a guide for the smooth side edge of the file you can get great results. I've had my Sugoi (original blade) for 3 years now. I tried an Ibuki when it was time to sharpen the Sugoi, but I didn't like how it can wobble in the kerf, so I resharpened the Sugoi and went back to using it. Between that and my Gomtaro I'm pretty satisfied. Was thinking about also having a G. Prosenti, too. Maybe for X-Mas!

Just got a Silky TSURUGI 300 with large teeth

Haven't got a chance to use it much yet, but the few little limbs I cut felt real good. Its got a really nice sheath and its narrow for thick close branched work. Its gonna replace my Zubat.

You can get it with medium aggressive teeth also and in three different lengths.

Wow those are nice, they are obviously two piece although I would stain mine, the Dutch are real good workers with wood. How much did those cost if you don't mind me asking.PM me. Paul.

Josh dump the corona read the posts here. The Sugoi is perfect for palms and that blade ain't bending my friend, the teeth are very aggressive. I as you know I cut lots of palms, this saw slices through them like butter, you did not say palms at first you were talking six inch medium hard wood. The sugoi can wook for both no prob. Trust me. Paul.

I use the Ibuki and my buddy uses the Sugoi, the only real difference is the Ibuki has a thicker blade therefore a stiffer spine otherwise silky list's both as having XL size teeth. Also both are resharpenable so if you are patient and have time you can get quite a few miles out of a blade. Baileysonline.com sells the feather file to sharpen them.

@ Paul.

These are handcrafted and didn't cost anything just a piece of taxus wood and some time :-)

They are made out of 2 pieces indeed and still going strong.

unfortunately for you I don't sell them ;-)

I use a Sugio for tree pruning and a Gomtaro for palm cleaning. Maintenance is very important with saw blades...Clean out debri and spray with wd-40 after using. The acid in palms will corrode any blade.

Same here except I use silicone spray, not sure of it's effects on live wood though have been meaning to research this. Paul.
