Has anyone used a hand help sharpener like this?

I am not interested in using this all the time, just out in the field to touch up a saw if we hit a rock or run it into the ground. I am wondering if this would be a good tool for this application. If not, I am planning on mounting a vice somewhere on our truck or chipper to hold the saw while sharpening. Any feed back would be appreciated.

I am on my second one, they work well, but the replacement stones tend to be pricey! Mine are made by Oregeon! I burned my first one up when I accidentally left the pin in when I was changing a stone, I bumped the switch and it smoked the electric motor!

Set-up on the adjustable plate is critical, but it beats the heck out of trying to file a rock hit out my file alone.

Don't they 'temper' the cutter, making it impossible to use a file?

I never thought of that. I would assume that the stone wouldn't spin that fast as to temper the cutter.... but I may be wrong. Have you had experience with this, or are you just asking?

mount the vice, i used to have one that detached from a welded spigot on my bandit chipper. have one mounted on a sliding rail under the truck side. works nice.
