Can someone translate "Halb Mastwurf Sicherung" into English?

That's what I got when I used Babelfish but it doesn't make sense.

it´s what you call a munter hitch.

Halb Mastwurf, that´s the munter hitch.
Sicherung, that´s belaying a climber or a limb (securing)

BTW A mastwurf is a clove hitch.

Wow! I tried figuring this one out when I was in college but none of the german majors were advanced enough to adequately tackle it.

In holland most of us speak 3 or four languages.
Dutch, english, german and french.

It comes in handy for forums.

BTW i used the treeclimbers companion to figure out the names of the hitches. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did you use the English, Spanish or German version of the Companion?

When Jeff was working with Kai to get the German translation he realized that the book's format had to grow to accomodate the longer words used in German. Jeff would send files of text to Kai for translation and then paste them back into his form. Even after reducing the white space and size of the graphics he had to increase the size.

It's interesting to put the two books side by side and "read" the German and Spanish versions. That made it evident that English must be a hard language because the compact words used for descriptions are much longer in the others.

Tom, I believe that it denotes the CARABINER designed to be used with
this hitch, or else it's the TECHNIQUE. The first two (if not fused as
one--don't have ref.s handy) terms denote the hitch, as "half a <clove
hitch>" (which the Crossing Knot really isn't, but ...). Cf Clyde Soles's
_Outdoor Knots_, where I think he has something on this (or maybe just the
name, the explanation having come privately to me).
