that's great ekka, but I can't help but wonder what is your real motive here. I don't mean to sound like a downer, but I have the greatest respect for the arborists that go out and do great work and just concentrate on that, doing their work and doing it well. They are the ones that don't have to go out and search for work because they've built an honest reputation.
I agree that people should be stopped from hacking trees, it's not fair to the customers and really not fair to the trees. But if you go in too headstrong, you're just going to hurt yourself in the long run. There is a wise way to approach every situation.
It also seems to me that pruning live foilage from any stressed tree will only weaken the system. I understand the good shoots to roots ratio theory, but it doesn't make sense to reduce the tree's ability to produce energy for itself when in a weakened state. Natural systems know how to balance themselves, we shouldn't have to make those decisions. If a tree can't sustain part of its system, it will shed (a branch, leaves etc..) and THEN the arborist can go up and take out the deadwood. Let the tree make the decision... we just help it along.
