Guyed Ash Tree

This was an ash tree removal we did last week. Fortunately for us it leaned away from the house. There was a smaller 2 stemmed (18"/15")mulberry beneath the lean that we were able to lift out using the GCRS. The ash had approx. 10% lean, so we opted to guy it back ("V" rig) to 2 trees. There were also some minor trunk defects approx. 45' up. You can see the climbers line to the right. He is in the Mulberry.

This is the 2nd guy line. It is horizontal at the right and goes thru the branch union on the left to a port-a-wrap. We used a prusik and a 1,500 lb. come-a-long to tighten up the guy lines.

MB, does that mean the guys were overkill?

I read it as being cautious. Were you thinking there was a different way to do it? /forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have used guys on quite a few removal jobs. Sometimes it turned out to be overkill, other times I was glad they were there.

Always worth the extra time setting them up if there is any question about stability.

Norm, your rigging setup looks great and it is a good example of using the K.I.S.S. principle, which I always try to follow.

Great Pics!
