Ground protection mats???

Had a fat pine branch stab through the handle on the one as ive resorted to to just droppimg trees on them in nice lawns :)and it went back to darn near normal after we pulled it out. I'm still impressed with the notch mats everyday. View attachment 50641 View attachment 50642
Yeah I’ve been happy with the notch mats as well, I have a mixture of alturna mats, Liberty mats & notch

Keeping the photo blurred for members only…my secret mat stash. Bought 10 in feb and they are rugged, used mostly for mini but also dump bodies and 8k lb chipper over bumpy terrain. They bend but get back to flat and no cracks yet.

New to mats, I've always used 1/2 plywood the few times I need anything for my mini, do you think these would hold up to a 55,000lb truck or is there a thicker option?

I'd be interested in the contact info as well

I bought the Duradeck mats and cut my own hand holds with a router and jig. They work great! I don’t think I will ever own mats without hand holds, so much easier handling them.

On even ground probably just fine. Search the supplier and “mat” and it’ll pop up. They are smooth on one side so can be slippery if the truck spins a tire. We switched from plywood after toasting multiple sheets on uneven ground/wet ground.

You can also buy directly from Sandhill Plastics who makes the mats sold by Farmer Boy. They make a mat specifically for ground protection that is $160? for a 4x8. They also sell 4 foot wide 1/4” thick plastic sheets that are sold in 50’ or 100’ lengths. I’ve been trying to think up a use for that.

Do they re-roll up, how tightly, and weight per length?

Alturnamats are over heavy for a lot of my needs, but very handy at times.

Could be a good complimentary tool.

I spec’d those out and 80lb/sheet vs 60lb for 4x6. Deciding factor for me.

These mats have been in this yard all summer. Finally took a pic today. I saw a cement truck on them earlier in the year.

Any idea what they are?
(edit...LOL, after posting the pic, I realized it says on the mat what they are! - I had to zoom into original pic to read it better. Fods - getfods.com - looks like they talk about mud maintenance - I didn't find any mention of protecting the ground from rutting... they weigh 430 lbs. anybody use these?)

I don’t think they are for ground protection as they are for letting the mud fall off of the tires before hitting the road. A building code here is that you have to have at least 8 feet of three inch rock run up to the main road while construction is going on so mud has a chance to fall off before the road.
I’m just guessing but it makes sense to me.

My biggest complaint about the 3’ wide mats was with the mini. No room on either side of tracks, if you had to make a turn or corner in your mat road, those 3’ers would squirt out of alignment. I wonder if the 4’ wide ones would stay planted better?…. I wouldn’t want to move a whole bunch of the 4’ wide ones tho..

The 4’ mats work Great with a mini, you can quite easily drive on a single row and still turn on a single mat. They don’t move around very much, as long as you are careful to turn only on one mat at a time.

^ Yep 4’ is the way to go for minis and lifts. That is what I use. You can do a 360 on two mats but have to go slow in the turn.

I bought 10 of these mats from Sandhill Plastics. They are heavy but seem to be sturdy. Nice to have a full 4x8 of coverage. I like the handles on the perimeter for dragging them around. Or putting a sling through them and carrying them with the Avant. I’ll give a report in a few months to let you all know how they are holding up.

One bit of feedback that I will give is that I ordered them on the 26th of August and they were already in Oregon ready to be delivered on the 2nd. Half way across the country in a week? Not bad these days! The shipping company was super easy to deal with to negotiate drop off time and place.

1/2" thick at 70 pounds saves some weight over Alturnamats.

The alturnalinks are very useful in some situations. Consider getting some and drilling holes for them.

I can measure and photograph the locations on AM, if wanted.

One job was up a steep, loose gravel slope. I linked a line of mats and parked my truck on the top-most mat as a anchor. I was barely able to climb it with loads. Without anchoring the train of mats, I don't think it would have been possible.

How have your access mats held up? Have you ever used alternamats or duradeck mats? I'd be curious how they compare. $160 is barely half of what other companies are selling 4'x8' mats for.
