Green tracks

Does anyone use green tracks or something like them? They are smooth skidsteer tracks that allegedly limit turn damage when turning. I have a kubota svl75 (10,000 lbs) with Ryan's grapple and it's awesome. Very turn friendly in a straight line and in a dry year such as the one we are having, turning is the issue, too big to zero turn on a mat, 2 mats side by side slide all around and don't work.

It's been posted about here before. By "Lumberjack" for one. Use the search function in upper right or sometimes better or different is to look for posts here by going out to google search and checking.

Smooth tracks are great on turf for moving material, but you sacrifice traction if you need to navigate hills or pull something. I would guess a 30% reduction in traction. Snow and ice you are asking for trouble with smooth tracks.

I had one job this spring we put the smooth tracks on for moving material. I would have needed a few hundred mats otherwise.

Can you link two mats together to prevent the slipping?

Depending on your soil conditions you may be able to stake the mats down. I've done this with tent stakes for a mini skid. The stakes held well in clay. Soft topsoil and they didn't have enough holding power

We tied mats together to form a train on a couple projects that we mini moved the chipper over lawn. The mats would spit out otherwise on the slope, needed the portable winch to help pull the 15xp up hill but the mat train held up.
@flushcut what is your technique for loosening tracks? I don’t have much experience with Vermeer.

There is a side plate on the undercarriage open that up, there is a large bolt head that has a keeper ring with its own bolt. Remove the side cover, remove the keeper, and I think 1 1/8” socket adjust as necessary. I think the spec it to lay a straight edge on top of the track and there should be 3/16”-1/4” space below the straight edge and the track.
I like a Snap On dual 88 long handle ratchet for this out in the field and an air impact at the shop. This is how I do it on my s800tx.
