Great tool just got turned on to....

So a few weeksa ago, me and the bros are sitting having a bite, and this young kid rides up on his bike with a rope puller in his hands, he explained how the 'loggers' had left it at his house months prior, and he wondered if we might find it useful...
'Here you go, have fun'
he said as he handed it too me, after thanking him a whole bunch we threw it in the truck and have been using it just about daily since.
What I am raving about is the Maasdam rope puller(see attachment) as sold by Sherril or WesSpur.
It is rated at 3/4 ton and just is a fab tool for pulling those little birch leaners and the like that are too much for a traditional pull and Z rigging takes time, and lord knows saves dragging out the hated 'turfer'...lol.
This lil baby attaches to the tree with sling or WHY, thread the rope through, been using the Samson three strand, hard lay works best, and start cranking, pulls tops through the canopy great, just great.
Just cant say enough about how easy this thing is to work, and if there is a need for a safety, using two guys(preferred but not required), the second can safety the rope taking a wrap on a near bye tree, or the anchor tree(if only one groundie is available to safe if needed).
At first being unsure of its abilities, we were safe tying every tree, but now only the odd one.
If you have ever wondered if one of these rope puller is worth it, Ill tell you they are worth the 60.00-70.00. I would go with the recommendation to use the 3 strand rope as it has a tendency to really milk 2n1 and the like.

Just thought I'd convey my experience with this great 'lil rope puller.
Myself, I had always wondered why we didn't have them, or use them, now I wont be, or would prefer not too be, without one for clearance work and the like.
Have a good week everyone of you, and stay safe.
-Grais.

Do you think that the rope puller culd be used in conjunction with a porta-wrap to lift loads?

I have been using a maasdam for years and love it!(Use 3 strand if you want the rope to hold up!!) As for lifting, I dug up my manual( yes, I am one of those that keeps all product info) and step 2# explains pulling and lifting, just don't overload it.

Of course someone is out that tool. I wonder if he tried to cobtact the logger.

During the Ice storm a line clearance crew left a 200t on the lawn. I placed it behind a shed out of site to passers by figureing hed be back. He did.

My dad's been raving about them for years. "Every tree crew should have one of these things. Especially smaller crews."

I've actually sold 12 or 16 strand rope with them before, but like you say a good 3-strand seems to function better.
