GRCS Near Wires

The rope is meant to go on the drum in one direction and come off in the other. a fairlead on the other side would not be used.

And if it was you may find the drum free spinning as you have wrapped the wrong way!

The rope is still going on and off the drum in the same manner.
The rope on the drum is tailing off the top of the drum instead of the bottom.
The only difference is the operator is standing on the other side of the winch.
Here's the first picture...
I've used it without the fairlead tailing off the opposite side and it works but would be better with a fairlead.

Does anyone know the reason for not having a lowering fairlead on both sides as opposed to just one side?

It would be better with a fairlead on both sides. You could then have the option of standin gon both sides but also you could have half wraps instead of complete turns.

I agree Rupe, it's just a matter of welding a pin to the other side and moving the fairlead from one side to the other when needed or have an extra one installed.
Cheaper than dirt modification.
Does Greg supply and sell parts for the GRCS?

It wouldn't need to be as fancy as the pigs tail, just a bent piece of bar would do for those odd occasions when you need it.

We were taking down some big corsican pines last week (I'll sort some photos soon) and everything got covered in sap. One complete turn on the grcs was fine for catching stuff but lowering big pieces was near impossible. HAlf a turn have been useful.

(whats wrong with this forum? It keeps jumping around while I'm typing???)

The problem I ran into was one side of the anchor tree had a hole filled with brush and boulders and the GRCS couldn't be worked from the proper side of the tree.
I operated the rope from the opposite side of the fairlead but the radius at which you could stand was restricted due to not having the fairlead.
