got me a new toy

You seem to give advice on things you have little experience with,
un true

if I give advice its on something I do/use enough to have it second nature

if its not something I use allot I will give a warning such as "do note, I dont use this technique a whole lot, and have little experience with it, so you may want to research it before using it"

ill put a link to my ISA "safety - introduction to arboriculture" cert because I know someone will have something to say about me being unsafe lmao

yes

and also, people correct me on stuff because they have zero idea how much experience I actually have, do you really think id be stupid enough to give someone advice unless I know what im talking about

Rico is an asshole for no real reason
Please tell us about all this actual experience you have Sap...Before you get started I would like to remind you that it was back in December (7-8 months ago) that you posted a pic of yourself wearing your first set of spurs, and you had the pads on fucking backwards. Now all the sudden you have the credibility to recommend caddy pads because you tried them for a few minutes (with the straps on fucking backwards).

Remember the time that you, with all your experience and wisdom, were advocating for leaving stubs during a removal (a tell tale sign of a newb, someone who is very uncomfortable, and/or someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

Who can forget the time you and daddy were gonna purchase a parcel, harvest timber, skid logs, and mill lumber. You were so fucking daft on the subject that you thought a chainsaw mill was gonna be better at milling lumber than a bandsaw mill. I vaguely remember you suggesting that you were gonna get a D6 to go along with your chainsaw mill. Do you have the foggiest idea just how ridiculous that sounds Sap?

While were at it maybe you could explain why you felt the need to share your "experience" when someone asked about the best knucklebone for a certain application..Please tell us precisely how much "actual" crane "experience" have you acquired since December buddy?

I bust your chops for one reason. You're an inexperienced 14/15 year old little boy who has no fucking business dishing out advice, yet you are constantly doing so. Myself, as well as others, have suggested that you do a lot less talking and a lot more listening, but for some strange reason your DNA seems to lack the listening gene. Bummer for you son.

At our age I think the biggest thing to learn and be safe is recognizing our inexperience. I read all the material I could but barely climbed until I found an arborist I could train with at least for a few hours (Thanks EJ Turner). I still recognize my inexperience which is why I’m always seeking training, nothing beats it. It is more difficult for us because we cannot legally work for a tree company at our age (at least here in Missouri). I do the best I can and always have someone with me while I climb. Yes it limits climbing opportunities but it keeps me in check and can help a lot with certain situations. If you recognize your inexperience it will open up many learning opportunities. Learn enough where you realize you know barely anything.

Actually, I knew nothing about forums when I started reading here a year ago (I joined a bit later). Because of this, combined with my lack of knowledge that made it so I could not realize your errors, I thought the well-known member tag meant you were credible. Luckily I learned how the tag works but it can actually be harmful to give out advice like that.

Pride comes before a fall. No one is bashing your ambition, which is great. You have a pompous air in your posts which you prove with this “everyone else is the problem or has a problem with me for no reason.” If people didn’t care, they wouldn’t say anything. Tree work demands humility and respect. Find that humility man, or you will regret it. Rico is not an asshole for no reason. He is an asshole for a very good reason.

It is also very easy to do Google or YouTube searches in order to find answers to questions, and then regurgitate that information as your own knowledge. If you're doing that, stop it. When I was your age I worked at a really good hardware store and at the counter there was a sign that read "Quick! Hire a teenager while they still know everything!"

Dude you are full of shit. There is no ISA “intro” cert… now if you pay $30 and read a little and take the test and pass you might get a couple of CEU’s TOWARDS a certificate renewal from a certification test you previously passed.
kid please get real, you have ounces of experience and if I recall you rec climb your backyard trees on spikes

you might be better off showing us a photo of your merit badge you got in the cub scouts for running two sticks together

I love Rico’s asshole.. oh did I say that out loud?

That is a certificate of completion of a 2 ceu course, not a Certification.
The ISA grants you .5 a continuing education unit for approximately a half hour of education. So since you do not have a CERTIFICATION you got a Certificate of completion for sitting infront of a screen for two hours and taking a open book multiple choice test.
My 13 year old son who has no interest in becoming a tree worker or arborist could challenge that test and get a passing score.
Introduction to Safety in Arboriculture is essentially a safety manual a company should give a new green hire a few days before they start work.
Nothing in it comes with bragging rights, kid. So yes you are full of shit

No need to thank me, just stop being a pozer. Your holy experience is not a piece of paper that ANYONE can get in a few hours.
You just made yourself look… Well let’s put it this way, it’s very telling that you come to a professional forum full of Arborists who have a YEARS of experience, some decades, some lifetimes, and wave this around like you know ‘second nature’ a thing about something.
If I were the owner of the site, you would have a sub header under “Well known member”, something of a disclaimer..

How should people our age practice spurs without causing harm? The only two ways I can think of is finding trees that are about to be removed and coordinating with the tree company, or using a single dedicated tree that was dying anyways. I’ve been holding off on spur use because it seems like something that you could easily form bad habits with. Besides redwoods and palm trees, what else do spurs not harm? Also @treesap do you care about trees? I saw your post where you cut down a beech tree because you made the mistake of getting your rope stuck in it. Why do you want to be an arborist? To show off?

I didnt cut the tree down because I got a rope stuck in it lmfao

it was coming down anyways, since it was growing into a much larger/nicer tree that we wanted to keep

I do care about trees, I want to be an arborist since its fun (for me), you learn allot along the way, and everyone I know needs tree work done

and, for spur practice, I find a tree on my property nobody cares about, and wear that thing out, I dont spur trees otherwise, thats just silly

Still a tree just the same, why not wait until you are working on removals and in the meantime challenge yourself with other techniques?
