good general lowering line?

new to climbing, almost 2 years experience in industry though.

have a job that requires a lowering line due to branch being over roof of house. branch is no more than 6" diameter and would be taken in at least 2 pieces.

whats a good general "beginner lowering line"? this would be a very low use/low weight line.

curious if there is the possibility of buying used lines but dont know if a place thats sells certified used lines even exists.

We just got a 200ft hank of Arbor Plex. It has been around forever and it is cheap. So far, I have been pretty pleased with it. But remember you get what you pay for. I really like Stable Braid which is what we use when running through a block. I like the Arbor Plex for natural crotch rigging. I would be hard pressed to spend the money on Stable Braid in your situation, and I really think Arbor Plex would be a good rope for you.

Big fan of the 'old school' 5/8" of 3/4" three strands for natural crotch rigging. But hey, get yourself a new climbing line and use the old one as a lighter duty lowering line. Its all I use. But 1/2" or 5/8" stable braid is the premium choice, the classic true blue is a great light duty as well. As for hand-me-down used ropes, if you wouldn't trust climbing on it, and you shouldn't trust rigging on it, it is an accident waiting to happen over those lovely hard wired garden lights and those fancy built in stone BBQ's.

There's no difference in my mind from a "general" lowering line and a real lowering line.

Spend your money on something worth while. Otherwise your "general" rigging line will be soon out dated and you would have wasted good money.

That said. I'm a huge fan of super braid by Samson. Stiff line that doesn't elongate as much as three strand and seems to be lasting quite a bit. You pay a little more but you get so much more value for your dollar.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Arbor Plex is a good line for low $ and won'thockle if you choose to use a Porty. Three strands will definitely hockle if used with a Porty. Three, 12 and 16 strands can all be used for natural crotch rigging. All double braids (DB's) should be used with a pulley/block. Most DB's share the load cover to core, thus the need for a sheave.

I have a 7/16's X 125' (5,900 lbs. ABS) New England filament dacron (3 strand) line that was used used for lowering that I have for sale. $45.00, you pay shipping. Has a ladder snap spliced on it for knotless rigging.
