gibbs on 16 strand

Ive been using a gibbs as a slack tender on my 16 strand 1.5 inch rope lanyard, and remember a post where someone mentioned that the gibbs ascender was only supposed to be used on kernmantle. Can anyone shed any light on this. Thanks

I'm sure it's just a slip of the finger but you do mean 1/2", not 1.5" right? I'm pretty sure a Gibbs ascender can work on a number of different rope types, not just kernmantle. If not, I've been using it wrong (successfully) for years as a lanyard adjuster...
