Getting a new helmet - SCC (see body)

Suggestion, Concerns, Comments (not enough room in the subject line)

Hi - thinking of getting a helmet of me own. Ya, right now I borrow one when I climb. I am looking for something that might be able to cross over to white water kayaking. The one I have for boating is great and is about three years old but has a dent or two from failed rolls, ouch rocks. I have looked at the Petzls and like the Petzl Meteor 3 Helmet – Any helmet for boating should withstand frontal impact, underwater rocks, Believe me I know about them quite well, maybe I should just learn that combat roll or stay on flat water, (Na). Would an ice climbers helmet, the Grivel Salamander Helmet work as well as the Petzel?

SO with that – my requirements are Impact, frontal, side and top, be light and vented, water flows better out of vents then full helmets and one that would meet the industry standers for rec climbing and whitewater paddling?

Any thought, suggestions, concerns or comments. No dimpled chads please.

Thank you

Jz

Has anyone used or is anyone using the Kong - SCARAB Helmet - # 997.007 - This also looks like something that would work for me - as it covers all the bases that of Recreation that I currently do: Water, Kayak, canoe, Bicycle and tree climbing.

It has vents, GEE can I get it in Purple. why are color selections so limited.

thanks

still very open to all suggestions

Plenty of colour choices in the salamander! Just bought me a black one, but i dont think it would be so good for the watery stuff as the vents are quite small. I personally would avoid the very lightweight expanded foam with a very thin plastic shell type. They are designed to protect by deforming, so one small impact could render it useless.

I've used a bunch of whitewater helmets from Ace, Seda, Protec, etc. and I can tell you the vents don't matter much. My favorite hat is unvented kevlar made custom by Franky Hubbard.

Drainage matters somewhat when you're learning to roll a boat but once your roll is strong and explosive, which all rolls should be, the drainage is no factor, it just pour out once you're up.

I use a skateboard helmet for climbing right now but a Pacific kevlar helmet is definitely in my near future.

thanks all - i have checked on a few things about helmets, climbing helmets are not good for kayaking - different impact zone and same the other way but we knew that. I tried on a few and see the difference of vents, no vents, (i heat up when i climb) so i have decided to get two helmets. Replace my kayak helmet with the same make and model i had (without the dent)getting the correct ones for the right sport. So far the climbing helmet will be the Petzl ercin roc - the metero just did not feel right on the head after 30 minutes.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions in this matter.
