I just took delivery on Saturday. The truck was at Tiffin. Drywall delivery boom, looks like the Mecanil went right on without any modifications except welding a tube to clamp the grapple on during transport. No deed to detach from the boom. The saw is too slow though. I will get it sped up somehow. Might have to replace some hoses on the boom to larger diameter to reduce the flow resistance.Seems wayyyyy to short??View attachment 36087 I just took delivery on Saturday. The truck was at Tiffin. Do they make jibs for that boom? We just picked up a Hiab 300-4. It picks 2200lbs at 57'(4 hydraulic extensions on first boom and 2 on jib) I'm looking for the 2 used manual ext. that are available for it to take it out to 1700lbs at 73' I believe.Still better than nothing. In a couple of weeks I can tell you better. My intention is to do mostly front yard trees. I think it will have almost the same practical reach as my 52' Hi-Ranger. But easier on me physically. The boom length is 42 feet. So about 34 feet effective side reach at 12' high and boom tip os 54' up at max height. I know it won't do for all trees but I'm ok with that.
No, James, I don't believe there is even a way to attach a jib of any kind. It is meant to be a drywall or material handling boom just about exclusively I think. Good idea though. I wanted to build a fly jib to go on my log loader, but it doesn't run high enough pressure for the saw. So I settled for this because I couldn't stand to wait for the crane. I like your thinking though. You can look up the IMT 16000 series and download a pdf of the info on it. This one is I believe a 16042Do they make jibs for that boom? We just picked up a Hiab 300-4. That extra reach will be nice on the Hiab! Are you strictly lifting with slings or something then and no grapple?Do they make jibs for that boom? We just picked up a Hiab 300-4. We haven't even completed the mount yet. As of now, lifting will be slings or chains - up in the air over that. Thompson Tree Tools has a cool chain on its site but chains still seem heavy to work with on the application side but nice on the variable length. I could pull off the jib and mount a grapple off the main but I would be back into the 40' range and lose so much usabilityThat extra reach will be nice on the Hiab! I use those chains regularly. They are easy to work with and throw around the tree when hooking up. As of now, lifting will be slings or chains - up in the air over that. I started with a 12 ton boom truck crane. Yes I plan on the MecanilAll mark, between your's and Mike Poor ' s videos on YouTube is the reason I decided to go with a kboom. I figure I'll use this baby boom I just got for a few years and then try to get into a truck like yours. Did you jump in or start with a smaller boom first? Any plans on your part to get a mecanil?
