Gecko Euro gaffs vs. tree gaffs

So I'm looking into it, and wondering what you all think about the Euro gaffs. From what I've heard, they are a little different than traditional gaffs, in that, you need to "place" them rather than kick them in.

What do you all think about them?

I made the switch from American tree gaffs to the euros and had no problems with the switch. Its the same kicking motion and takes less effort to pull out of the tree

Make sure you buy some extra Velcro for the geckos so the pads stay on. I had the hardest time trying to use the Velcro they give you to actually support the pad. I picked up some industrial strength Velcro at home depot for five bucks and haven't had a problem with the pad since

I didnt like them, just put the shorter regular gaffs available on and cant wait to try them. I only liked the euros in soft/green wood.

I hated my Gecko with the euro gaffs they would always gaff out it was very unsafe, we have very hard tree in oz and i persisted with them for 12months. Then they bought out the pole gaffs to suit and life was good again.

I love my Geckos Now.

in my experience pole gaffs are only good for trees that have no ivy on them, otherwise the gaff is way too small to break through the ivy and get into much harder, better wood, but then again, maybe we here in jersey have untameable ivy, unlike those who use pole gaffs and live in other states

we have a lot of ivy here probably climb a tree every other day with it. Sometimes it gets so big that you have to rope pieces of it down

Yesterday we stripped a tree down of poison ivy that was as thick as my wrist. The tree gaffs really help get to the heart of the matter when spiking through the stuff. Its something to consider when buying spikes around here
