Game of Logging

I took the GOL through my highschool vocational program through a company called www.woodlandtraining.com from NH. It was a great program teaching, chainsaw safety and maintance, open face notching technique, advanced felling skills, wedging techniques ect. I would recommend the program to beginner and novice cutters, but anyone could learn a trick or two. Also New hampshire Timberland Owners Assoc, or NHTOA has a professional logger proram that includes a basic and advanced felling classes taught by the same instrucors using the same skills as the GOL. www.nhtoa.org gets you more info on their org.

The NH course is what I took Jim to get my loggers certification and its the same thing that they teach in the GOL.

I think all tree workers should go through at least the advanced felling course. Even though you'll never get the instructors to buy into using the tapered hinge.

But thats a whole nother topic.

I was asking to see what kind of program it was. If it was a basic course like Arbormasters Felling courses, or a more advanced course worth looking into to get some advanced tips and tricks other basic courses may not cover?

Thanks for the replies guys!

Jim, the course covers basic and advanced felling techniques. The advanced course that I took delt with trees with side lean felling them with the Adjusted Gun Technique.

We also learned to fell trees that were hung up or had broken tops, also the bore cut tech. was covered thoroughly. We took down trees with substantial backlean using only wedges and the bore cut. We also learned to deal with springpoles both small and large.

Again the course was geared towards loggers, but it has made me a much better Arborist knowing that I have the felling techniques to deal with any trees that I need to drop.

Hope this helps.

You'll probably pick up more on the Buzz or Fundamentals of General Tree Work for special techniques.
Most courses are set up for general felling,GOL I understand being one of the better courses to take for initial certification.
