Future of the ITCC

It makes perfect sense to me, I work and compete with the same intensity. In fact I may try harder at work since the probability of getting paid is extremely higher. We tell our clients to expect the best, its what they are paying for. I have a hard time drawing that line.

I'm employed to do a quality job managing trees. That involves pruning and removal in an urban environment - controlled risk. I price my work to do a quality job accordingly. That doesn't involve rushing or hacking so the client feels they have value for money!!! My clients recognise the risks once explained to them, and are anxious they employ a pro to make sure nothing goes wrong and no-one is hurt (public or pro). Its down to the arborist to sell their worth BEFORE the job begins.

Arborists are the only professionals or trademen I have ever noticed truly rushing to do a job as par for the course. Couple that with the obvious high stakes, and it makes you wonder why anyone takes arborists seriously. A comp that focuses on speed and is prone to accidents, doesn't help the situation.

I no longer work for clients that are purely price motivated - lifes too short, the risks too high and my expertise too valuable (like most arborists who have taken the time to study and learn and improve).

If it isn't the client at fault, it is the sell or pricing. No one else to blame for that.

Its difficult enough making it pay safely and efficiently, without undercutting each other by running round like lunatics.
