Futura hand ascender

I have a futura for sale. used once. make an offer.

I made a similar modification as Dave. I didnt go so far as to punch out the cam lock but simply removed the spring. It took about 2 seconds with a screwdriver. I have been using it for quite a while and its fantastic.

With the lock removed, you can just press the rope against that little thumb button and push and it's on. Twist and push and it's off. Simple and fast but you will need to use good technique in order to keep it on the line.

I do like the Kong hand ascender. Rather than taking the whole spring out just shaving little off the tab seems to work well. It is now
better suited for the bigger ropes and still does not come "off line" and goes on and off easily.

Just as an update on this hand ascender I thought I would mention that I no longer use it. Hand ascenders are very nice, especially on skinny rope. Since starting this thread I have pretty much settled on Vortex as my go to rope and even using SRWP I find I just don't need the extra grip of a hand ascender. For the very few times that I need a rope grab I keep a small prusic loop on my harness.

I agree DSMc , I don't climb without a prusik loop (or two, one I made and the other from the CELanyard) with me but I still like the futura for the quick on and off.
