Fused sling during crane removal

Just did 2 very large poplars in 20 picks today. The job tooks about 5 hours with 5 guys..........lots of bucking. One turn was 8000-9000lb. A weird thing happened on that turn though, the outer jacket on my tufflex type sling fused together at the girth hitch. Has anyone ever experienced this?

I took some pics from up in the trees and I will post them when I get them developed.

I've never had that happen with my Tufflex but I did learn about this when I used some 1" tubular webbing slings. The little slipping when loaded made for a nasty rug burn at the cross over. Glad that I learned the lesson on small stuff.

You could use large flat webbing slings with eyes next time. When the slip occurs the metal eye will roll smoother and dissipate the heat.

Will you have to toss out the Tufflex slings?

Don't the manufacturers state that the cover is just for protection of the load-bearing strands on the inside. I think I've read that if you wear the cover, it still may be usable, as long as the inner strands aren't damaged/exposed.
