Then you should’ve chosen a better example. This jackass is a professional agitator. In what must be a total surprise to JeffGu, the gentleman is neither a "Proud" nor "Boogaloo" Boy (Boi?). He is a left-wing extremist. (A term we Americans are unfamiliar with, since our media seems oblivious to the existence of such people, including the "citizens" of CHAZ).

He's a troublemaker. According to witnesses he said he "went down there to have some fun", and told the cops that they were going to punch him in the face and that the Supreme Court was then going to be involved. He was seen inciting the younger protestors prior to the incident. It was determined that there was a danger of fights erupting, placing protestors, officers, and the general public in harm's way.

In other words, the protest was deemed to no longer be peaceful. The order was thus issued to clear the street. Gugino was ordered MULTIPLE times to get back. All he had to do was comply. Not only did he not comply, he actually approached the police line. To paraphrase the immortal words of Mr. Blonde from Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, "If he hadn't done what they told him not to do, he'd be fine." Now he has brain damage, but it might be hard to prove it wasn't a pre-existing condition.

All that said, the two cops are looking at serious charges and I'm not losing too much sleep over it. The "eggshell plaintiff" doctrine states that you take your victim as you find him. Their victim was not bright and had the coordination of a drunken toddler. They barely touched him, but that's no defense legally. Not sure how cops could ever clear any street in the future though, assuming protestors simply refuse to move. Can't touch them apparently.

Any suggestions for future crowd control tactics if touching is off limits?

So, a 75-year-old "leftist agitator" poses such a serious threat to a couple of dozen cops in riot gear that it's necessary to put him in the hospital? They receive no training that allows them to arrest unarmed elderly folks without putting them in the hospital?

Even in this podunk town, the local sherriff's office are able to deal with protesters, and even bank robbers, without anyone getting hurt. In fact, they've never had to beat the shit out of anyone or fire their guns in their entire history. They sure as hell don't push 75-year-olds to the ground, who pose no threat to them. When the city park closed, they just asked people to go home and come back the next day. The only rowdy ones protesting, they just calmly told them that if they didn't do this, they'd be ticketed or arrested. Everyone went home and came back the next day. No pepper spray, rubber bullets, or burning buildings involved.

Now, it's possible that there just weren't any dangerous, lefty agitators in the crowd. I suspect it has a hell of a lot more to do with the fact that the deputies treated everyone like citizens who were upset with the way things are going, not as criminals out to destroy the universe.

Inside CHAZ, I'm not seeing anyone being beaten, killed, converted to homosexuality using secret conversion therapy methods, or buildings on fire. I don't see the entire free world crumbling into dust due to a bunch of protesters occupying a few blocks of Seattle. I suspect that in a few days, they'll get hungry and tired, and start going home on their own. Making a statement doesn't require actually blowing shit up or killing fuzzy animals to get attention. It certainly doesn't require making hundreds of pipe bombs to "kill the feds".

But, if you're looking for a place to hide out from all this dangerous, lefty oppression @Bucknut, I think I know a guy who can make room for you in his Baby Bunker.

1. This man was sleeping in his car and was unarmed.

2. This one is very important so please try and pay attention Jem. A TASER IS NOT CONSIDERED A LETHAL WEAPON IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA.

3. This unarmed man was running away from the cops when he was shot in the back. The cop pulled his taser as a non lethal weapon, but when he lost his taser it suddenly and miraculously became a deadly weapon, giving this cop the right to shoot the man in the back? Wrong.

For the 10,000th time: just comply. Even if you believe the police are in the wrong and are acting illegally, nothing will ever be achieved by fighting with cops on the street. As I tell my kids, “First comply, then complain.” If you have an actionable case a lawyer will make the police pay.

It’s not open and shut on the use of force either, Rico. The taser does not have to be a deadly weapon to justify the police using deadly force:

Thought experiment: imagine some Trump supporters forcibly took over a six block area of a large American city’s downtown. (Seattle for example.) They take over the police station, erect borders with armed guards at checkpoints, extort local residents and business owners in a mob-like protection racket and institute government via warlord all while claiming they are no longer in or under authority of the United States of America. No problem with that? Just patriots exercising their 1A rights?

This is dangerous. Tolerating it is dangerous. Pretending it is harmless is dangerous. This is a literal act of secession. We should treat them accordingly.

This is so far from the truth.

The only reason guns were pulled by the gun club that was there to support CHAZ, is on the police scanner there were multiple police reports of a mob of far right marching to CHAZ.
Now tell me that if there was a white lives matter protest, and a group of 30 black folks were marching to it there wouldn’t be a few defense measures. The area wasn’t and isn’t ‘taken’ the cops literally spend 24 hours packing up and left. Those barricades were the cops (granted they have been reinforced).

3. Not sure I can make this any simpler for you. Read the use of force standard: The taser does not need to be a deadly weapon to justify lethal force in response to it. Example: Cop responds to a domestic violence. Husband is beating wife in the face with a coffee mug. No one normally thinks of a coffee mug as a dangerous weapon, but he sure as hell could kill her with it. Hitting her with it is likely to result in serious bodily injury. Lethal force justified.

I understand (and agree) that there is legit question about whether the taser is likely to cause "serious bodily injury" to the cop. Resolving these questions is the duty of juries and judges, not ill-informed raging mobs.
