Fu*%face Von Clownstick

A point that hasnt been made is that campaign promises and hardline rhetoric oftentimes never come to fruition when a new administration actually tries reforms. Push back from senate, congess, and court system often prevents it.

Some food for thought in the right-left/dem-repub debate on immigration.

Trump has said, subsequent to being elected, he is going to
"immediately" deport 2 to 3 million people.

But Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out some 2.5 million deportations between 2009 and 2015, under President Barack Obama.

Dig a bit deeper and define 'deport'. Denying admission is included in those numbers.

Look at the justification for the numbers too.

Look at 'rumps proposals for sending people away/back.

And Levi damn near started a whole new thread there....

Anthropogenic forest decline is very much a reality no matter where you sit on the climate fence. Evidence shows pollution carried by rain is depostiting acids, heavy metals, and numerous other nastiness in forests changing nutrient availability and toxicities. I've read some of Kevin Smith's work on this.

Rolling back environmental progress and policies made (not enough I know) is not the proper response but that has been a platform point for Trump.
How did a bunch of tree guys not respond to this one???

No their could be terrorist among them. I know that's absurd and I'm sure someone will post a study saying their all the nicest ppl on earth but it's just asking for it and what's the threshold of americas generosity to everyone on the planet

Jem these beliefs of yours are now making a resurgence in Europe now. Basically nationalism vs federalism of EU. Not merely moderate left vs moderate right anymore. Financial crisis and refugee influx has brought them out of the fringe and put them in the mix for coming election cycles.
Reminiscent of Germany in the 30s to some folks perhaps.

Many years ago I ran around with a guy whose parents emigrated from Ireland. He was born here but had strong ties to Ireland during "The Troubles'. One evening we were at a bar in St. Paul where I noticed a guy who dressed a bit different and was surrounded by a whole group of guys glad-handing him and treating him with adoration.

I asked the guy what was going on. He told me that he was a fund raiser for the IRA. I slugged down my beer and told him that I didn't want to be in the same room as this IRA guy. I appreciate the position of the IRA but I sure didn't like their means.

I met Edward Abbey at a book signing. He is the originator of Earth First! Again, I'm not so happy about direct action but I do understand their position.

Terrorists come in a lot of versions. Many are home-grown too, not imported.

The Minutemen could be considered terrorists. A huge turning point in history there at Boston Commons and the Concord and Merrimac Bridges.

My namesake and hero is Thoreau though.

Thanks for sharing those bits Tom. Have a friend who wore orange on Patties Day and caught some grief for it here. It can still run deep Ive been told.

Do you know what the founding fathers of this country were? They were fleeing religious persecution, they were radicals, they were immigrants, and they were refugees.

In modern times, there are far more domestic-grown terrorist attacks and mass killings from right, left, and mental health anomalies to fear.

Do you really want to help "make America Great Again"? Vote for people that have a real plan to address mental health disparities and addiction treatment: far more likely to cause real harm in your life.

Do you slight America's values and history? Do you devalue what our fathers and grandparents fought wars for? Many lost their lives fighting wars in the hope to spread freedom and democracy worldwide. Many didn't have a choice and were drafted. Yes America has always been a nation of immigrants and a shore of refuge when tyranny, terror, and death are really knocking on your homelands door.
