Here's my wish list:

Front and rear cameras
Rear camera-Bluetooth, simplifies wiring
Recording-how much storage for how long?

I saw a F/R cam system built into a double din stereo unit. Sometimes I like the Shopsmith/Swiss Army Knife version of gear. But, if one thing breaks down the whole works has to be replace or [unlikely] repaired.

Are there other features I should look for?
 
I had done something like that for hooking up the trailer.

It doesn't record anything.

For just backing, if I were doing it again, I would just get a bluetooth camera and use my phone screen.
 
The camera I have is Pyle. I replaced the double din stereo in the truck with a Planet Audio. Both cheap off of Amazon...wasn't sure how it would go, so I wasn't going to spend much.

Nothing special about either, but problem free for a few years now. Don't remember the brand of the first camera I had, but it only lasted a few months. Got fogged up under ththe lens and was never clear again... this one has been good.
 
As I've been pricing camera systems out I find that they are either super cheap or 4-6 times the cheap price. Very few names that I recognize either. Its hard to attach quality heritage like I have with Kenwood etc for in dash radios.

My conclusion is to find features that I want and go cheap. There is little installation labor to pro-rate. Just the cost of the pieces. If one dies buy another...sad to say :llorando:

I've had decent success with some of the wired kits from Amazon for $50-80

That's backup only.

For recording, I found a set for 500-600 that had sideview too. Seemed like the Cadillac.

The brand, Falcon electronics is what I'd read good reviews on.

There's a few options as far as built in WiFi and stuff. I haven't pulled the trigger because it's big $,and I'm not positive you need to spend it. Nice thing about these single DVRs is all the recordings are together.if you bought multiple units they wouldn't be time synced and organized the same.
