I agree with nick about the wide webbing friction savers. That thickness makes it much easier to manuver in and out of the crotch. I think it makes the ART pulley work a lot easier too.
As for the cheap pulley, from what I heard somewhere else on this site, if you get the clevis with a twist from sherrill, use some lock tite, then the rope is not so ready to jump off track. But the 60 bucks for the pulley was one of the best 60 bucks that I have ever spent. Its a whole new world with that pulley. I've just found a cool way to set the thing from the ground too.
So I have got the pulley on my friction saver with a tenex eye and eye prussic One time I tried to set the apparatus like the old school friction saver using the ART as the small ring instead of the actuall small ring. It worked but the pulley naturally wanted to go through the big ring but the throw bag would not let it and actually was tempted to get stuck and wedged into the big ring. Also, the pulley would rub on the ring creating enough friction that it did not make things better than the ring and ring set up.
However, I found that if I used a big fishing weight that would not fit through the pulley but small enough to slip right through the big ring then I could set it from the ground. you can trade the weight out for the throw bag after the throwline is set. Set the apparatus in the tree just like a traditional cambium saver except you use the ART in place of the small ring. when the pulley flips over the ring you can pull it right through the big ring, fishing weight and all. the fishing weight comes down and you are all set.
Now I have just tried this a couple of times, recent accidental discovery. I dont know how to set it so it is simoultaneiously removable. you still have to climb to The TIP to set it in the harp. I am also a little concerned about the effect of the weight rubbing on the pulley. Time will tell with that I will keep an eye on it. Good luck with that.
