Friction Hitch

Anybody use the ocean polyester for a friction hitch? I was thinking about ordering some but just want to hear some opinions about it from people who might be or have used it. Thanks

I've been using OP almost every time I climb for the past 4 months. I typically tie a V.T. and use a Hitch Climber pulley with my set up. It's a little stiff at first but grabs and holds up well. I've not seen any wear on the cordage other than it's getting a little dirty, however, I don't use it with production climbing day in and day out like most of you. Initially I tied knots in the end but recently spliced tight eyes that work really well because the bulk of the knots is now gone.

Ocean Polyester is my favorite. I have two climbing lines (short rope and long rope). Both are setup with Hitchclimbers and OP. I go through about four lengths of OP per year.

IMO it depends on what climbing line you use. I weigh about 190 and no matter what Climbing hitch I used OP would not hold on my blaze. A few months later I used it on bluemoon and it seemed like had to baby sit it after tailing slack. I like HRC and ice. I use HRC on my blaze and ice on my bluemoon that’s what works for me.

I use the 8mm. It's very different than the 10mm. Not just thinner, but with a different cover, core, and splice!

See my avatar for the 8mm splice...

No PM necessary. Unfortunately I don't sell the OP rope. I've tried splicing it, and it is possible...but at $10, plus what I'd want to charge you for a spliced version, I think the best thing is to encourage a different rope or hit up Sherrill for the stitched eye-eye.

i have a 8mm bee line right now. its fine but i do like the 10mm better. I have had the 8mm get tight on me and it gets real hot when coming down
