Fox Fire Radio

Has anyone used the fox fire radio from Sherrill's? Just wondering if it's any good. I got a job coming up that is all blind picks at night.

I have not used the Fox Fire Radio system. But, any form of wireless communication with the crane operator would be great. I hate blind picks with the passion! And I have never done NIGHT tree work.

Why do you need to work at night Eric?

Cant comment on the fox radios, but we have 2 sets of Earmarks and absolutely love them.

I cant imagine doing blind picks and having multiple persons tagging the crane. Speaking directly with the operator to tell him minute, precise, movements is key top a safe, productive job!

Dang! Are you going to charge them a premium for your night work?

Yes, I bought 5 sets, because I thought it would be cool if the whole crew could talk, instead of just the climber and crane operator. I bought the best two-way radios I could find to go with them (Midlands, which were supposed to be compatible...) but I couldn't get the throat mics to work. I sent them back to Sherrill and they said that they worked for them on Motorola radios. My radios worked great with a regular earpiece, but the throat mics were useless - all I got was an occasional garbled transmission. Right now I'm working with Sherill to determine the exact nature of the problem - probably the mics work better with certain radios. I'll keep you posted so you dan't waste your tiome or money.
