Forum Updates

Alright,

We are thinking of changing the header (flash) at the top of the page to a still picture. Does that sound good or bad?

Also, how do you like these colors?

Thanks for the input. /forum/images/graemlins/bounce.gif

Dave,
That happened to me today too. I was using a different skin under my personal prefferences. I changed it back to default and got this baby blue color now.

The skins /forum/stylesheets/blackandblue.css and /forum/stylesheets/desert-classic.css, at least, are missing from /forum/stylesheets/ at present. In fact, the only file in that directory (as far as the server is concerned at any rate) is infopop.css. If any other "skin" is selected, a 404 response is obtained from the server, so fallback values for .tableborders {} result (as well very many other settings).

I don't have CSS enabled so don't see any difference between the two options mentioned and the default, but I'd imagine that the two optional "skins" would at present be undifferentiated from one another, or any of the other non-default ones.

This is not a criticism; merely an explanation.

By the way, if anybody cares to see what it is I'm talking about here in this thread with new post indication in the individual thread indexes, select an alternate skin and romp around the site a little! Until the "skin" stylesheets become available again what you'll see everywhere is almost entirely what I always do.

The flash looks nice, but I am on high speed so it doesn't matter if I keep loading it. One thing I missed today was a divider between posts, or even more space just to keep it clear who I was reading.

Once it loads it can be the same for every change. The little bird can still move over the then static pic.

... Hard coding the notarget is the easiest way to make the most people happy...

Hardcoding "notarget", if it's something you're doing manually to the templates, will effect no change from the current behavior and I recommend you save yourself the effort.

"Threads",

I was unaware the target had already been changed, thinking it was merely still being talked about. Evidently it had and my proxy filtered it to "notarget". Sorry about that. I'm quite surprised you didn't call me out on it.

Please submit http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/ubbthreads.php and http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/login.php to the validation service at http://validator.w3.org/ at your first possible convenience. Note particularly the item starting at error 28. The pages, which contain your advertising code, are unrenderable due to being left in an undefined state. The fact that it is not evident to you indicates you're using a browser which silently provides guesses in order to be able to render something. I highly recommend the use of Netscape Communicator 4.8 for a quick view of new pages as it does the right thing when tables have been left open. Still, all prospective web pages should be run through the W3C validator to ensure compliance with the standards.

While you're fixing the advert code, please insert the WRAP attribute to the main TEXTAREA elements in the two templates I've mentioned a couple of times now.

Thanks for freezing the header. Much less distracting now and it still looks nice.

One other item that I find less than desirable on this site- After posting, I am directed to a page thanking me for posting and then it sits there for eons before redirecting me back to the main menu page (unless I click the link to view my post). Why the long delay before redirecting? Most forums have the 'Thanks for posting' page for 1 second or less, and then immediately send you back to your post. I don't need 10 seconds to read the 'Thank You' every time and I don't need to be sent back to the main index if there are still unread threads in the forum I was viewing. Tiny details like this make a forum less user-friendly because the users spend more time waiting for the software instead of viewing what they want to read. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
