Forestry truck or Just a bucket?

Everybody wants to be the big take down guy , just be careful what you wish for.

Not me. I would much rather do large pruning jobs than large removals. Not to say that I don't get some level of satisfaction out of dismantling a large tree. I just don't want to do it on a daily basis.

In this buissness you have to know what to take on and what to walk away from. You should learn how to do crane work with someone that already has the ability to teach you the right way.I have also learned in this buissness that if the owner does not want the job for any reason they will bid high on the job so if they do get it more money more time more options. Over the summer my boss went to look at a job it was 11 or 12 totally dead poplars too dangerous to climb million dollar home the trees were spread out all over the yard so a crane would not do the customer wanted nothing dropped in his yard at all and no equipment in his yard and we have turf tires on everything so he bid $20,000 he just didnt want to deal with it another company came along I knew the owner he bid $11,000 it took him total of two weeks to get the job done and he lost his @$$ on that job and about two climbers cause they refused to make the climbs. If you fell like the job is to much bid high so you dont feel like you are walking away no one likes to walk away but sometimes its the best thing to do. If you bid high and get the job you just have more options hope this helped you a little. By the way when I first started doing estimates I was bidding 1800.00 on 5000.00 dollar jobs cause it was just dropped in my lap I had no idea how to bid on tree work but I soon learned lol

Thanks everybody. It took an accountant to help me figure out what I need to bid to break even. I was then able to figure out how to make some cash. I get these growing pains when i'm slow. Thanks for the feed back!!!!!
