Ford

Seems everyone in my area has problems with there Fords. More specific the 6.0 powerstroke.

I'm impartial to brands and am on the hunt for a truck and it looks like it will be a f450 or f550. Looked at the dodge 4500/5500 series but the price is crazy compared to the ford.

When looking at the fords are there some specific questions I should be asking? Certain fixes that should be done. Most that hit my price range are in the 100k-150k mile mark.

Danger ranger sounds like its going on its third clutch slave cylinder replacement next time I take it in. Belt tensioner is making a funny noise. The rubber matting started to lift. Driver's side window weather stripping was causing the window to shudder as it went up and down, and needed to be fixed twice. Parking brake sets funny sometimes... Just coming up on a year now, 51,000km... Gonna be switching dealerships, and complaining to ford about the quality of make and the poor service from mechanics. I even told them about the belt tensioner 3 appointments ago and they were like we didn't hear anything at every appointment, yet after getting bitched at by the service rep that I needed to test drive (which takes more of my time) with the service tech that some how I managed this magical noise and funny too that it was coming from the belt tensioner. Said they would have it on order and fix it when they replaced my slave cylinder when they got the tool to do that. Never got replaced, and how does a ford dealership not have a tool to fix a ford product? Twice! They screwed me twice and kept my truck an extra day till they got this wonder tool. As of right now ford can s my b's. It's like me walking up to prune 60ft tree and not bringing a rope. My volkswagen golf which I bought with 192,000km from a back alley dealership almost felt like better quality. Retired it with 312,000km and the slave cylinder was never replaced, so it's definitely not my driving.

Never said I'd drive a small Ford. That's what there are Toyota's for.

Or there is always the G eneric M ade C hevy

I have two Fords and I must say I have had little problems with either. The 6.0 has had some oil issues but nothing to cry about.

Definite Ford person. I've owned my share of everything else, and it's always been my Fords that have given me the least grief.

Currently in the stable are my '11 Ranger, the '12 Explorer, the '88 F700 and the '87 F350.

The '11 Ranger replaced my '94 with nearly 300k on it; that's still on the road and being driven daily by a relative.

The '12 Explorer replaced the '05 Escape we totaled last year with 160k on it. That had plenty of life left.

Extra points for figuring it out for themselves and saying NO to the bailout.

I've got a Dodge 5500 coming in shortly, and I can say this, shopping between the Dodge and the Ford, they were either VERY close in pricing, or the Dodge came in a couple grand less than the Ford, depending on where I went.

Always tried to figure something like this out.

Been running a 93 F-700 for over 5 years now. I love this truck. Anything that does go wrong, I got a pretty good shot at fixing. It's holding pretty tight altogether though. Got a 5.9 cummins and an allison auto, can't think of a better combo.

i have a ford F-700 1991 10 ton dump 429 gas engine . hydraulic brakes . awesome truck .parts are not hard to get and i do not have to worry about all the emmission bs nowadays . this thing is built like a tank . i am always getting compliments on it . very fuel efficient ! there are alot of repairs i can do myself . i will never own a new truck , machine ,ect . nothing is built like the old stuff and you are grandfathered in with the emmissions ! thats right f off greeny weenys !

I'm not really brand loyal, but I have an '85 f250 with a 6.9 diesel that is pretty hard core. Its a bit uncomfortable and
only has a 4 speed, So not great on the highway. Super easy to work on though.
