footlocked!

Went to a good friends house yesterday to get a dead hanger out of his good sized hickory. I hit a fork by the limb and set up. He is used to seeing me in spurs since he has just seen me do removals. He was wondering what I was doing. Then I said this is how the pros do and footlocked 55 foot and got his hanger out. Then I decided to clean it out for him since I was up there. GOT TO LOVE IT! I will take pics of the tree later. It was easier to get up there I think than spurring .

Practice a lot and you will be more versitile in the tree off the spikes.

If the boss does not come around, then you can eventually find another company to work for. Maybe you will have to drive a bit farther, but you will feel better working for a better company.

As a sub-contractor i have had a number of clients who were frustrated in how long it takes to set a line vs hooking or laddering. When they see how much more efficient it can be to work off set lines they come around.

you can set multiple climbing and rigging lines from the ground, if you are working on specific parts of the tree. Then you do not have to climb to the top to set up, just to the work area.

Getting good at line setting is a solid prerequisite to footlocking. It's really quite simple, given the right gear, which quite honestly, is minimal.

If you're fast at line setting, and even barely average at footlocking, you can be quite impressive.

Which is why i frequently set more then one line at a time, sometimes I'll put one out on a latteral just in case i need the stability to get out on the tip.

Some old-timer leaders get frustrated with 10-15 min of line setting if they do not see the advantage; your just putzing around.

On the other hand, taking an hour to get the perfect TIP on a huge tree can be worth it too.

Yeah throwline is key. if the ole boss sees you set a line first try in a high tip then footlock to the top while the other joe is still putting on his hooks-im sure he will have a change of heart.

I am ok with a throw ball. He just wont come around easy....30+ year vet in the tree biz. I think he knows how to run his busness, but the times are changing and I want to be profesional! I think that it would matter more also if there was a way to educate the customer so they would know.....well some do know but don't really seam to care. This really is frustrating for me.

And again today!!! With my boss there. He gave me a lot of "do what you need to." Today. Footlocked into a huge live oak to deadwood. I did MY THING in the heat and a Damn proud of it. This is an awesome day with more and more often I hope. And didn't get stung by the bees in the tree either! Just awesome!
