Hello,
That is ingenious but I'm sure you are exceeding the Shunt's technical capability. A quick look at the Petzl spec sheet showed slippage starting at 1kn and describes the device as a rappel back up or for ascension only.
I dont think it is wise to side load the pinto either, do you have any figures for this usage?
Sorry for sounding an [pick a different word] on our first meet, I like your style!

No problem, it makes for great discussion and leaning.
Yes, slippage for the smallest rope 1kn, 8kn for the larger rope. I'm using the largest and it is "slippage". The connector is good to 20kn.
As to that "intended purpose"....that is a whole nether thread. When that caveman had his plate roll down the hill it is a good thing he didn't just go wash it and not give it another thought. "I told you woman!, that round plate is for eating now get me another rib." :)
Maybe Petzl or someone else will see this and make a "daddy shunt".
or just stick with a basel anchor and floating crotch.

Anyway, thanks for the thought.

Cheers

This is a good point and as you can see from this photo, almost the same thing can be accomplished in a more appropriate configuration.

Thanks.

P.S. Noticed the photo did not download properly, think I fixed that. BTW tuttle, I like your floor a lot more than my floor :)

even though they say 1kn, thats 100kgs, I wiegh 82kgs, and dynamic drop is slowed the best out of all other tools, i.e the asap ripped the cover and core, but the shunt does no damage.

I'm using 10.5mm and 11mm ropes.

The test show 200kgs being dropped from 3meters (I believe)

Its never been pulled from production, and only being promoted for use by trained professionals.

We are getting our heads together to find the answers.

Here is one I did today, a sort of rads setup.

Personally I find the pinto in that position a bit of a rigid non-friendly thing.

I know alot of people swear by it, but I prefer the simple and easy to use swing cheek, its more adapt at twists and turns.

There are no sharp edges, it only looks that way.

The good thing about this is you just drop your working end into the carabiner, it takes no time to do.
