Fleet/fuel cards

I have a large pig in a blanket spill kit
But no doubt, it’s not enough of a tank let loose. I have berms of wood chips around them that would be my best bet for containment purposes
I gotcha. I live right by two protected water sources and an interstate, which I feel like increases the likelihood of some sort of audit in the future. Just want to make sure all of my i are dotted and t are crossed.

There is a group TCIA is pimping that doesn't have fees. They seemed to be ok but I decided to stay local. I can't remember what the group was but you should be able to find them as a corporate sponsor or partner on TCIA's site. Sorry I don't have the name handy.
I have a meeting with these folks Monday. They're super nice! The number of things we can get discounts on is insane, from payroll and legal fees to fuel and insurance. Good looking out on the referral.

Just talked with these folks and wow! They have some cool programs. They take the fees out of fuel cards, reduced cost uniforms, payroll and accounting discounts, and more. Super impressed. Much thanks!

If you can usually fill up at the same station or "brand" of station there are some decent deals to be had, especially if you use their card/payment system.

We have a Love's in town and they are usually the cheapest on fuel, plus if you sign up for their rewards it's 10 cents /gal on gas and 15 cents on diesel. No limit on gallons or waiting on points to build up. Maverik is another one around here that offers deep discounts but you have to use their payment system to get the best deals.

I've thought about getting a tank and having off hwy diesel delivered but it would take a while to break even with my small operation. Besides, the truck drinks way more diesel than the chipper or mini ex...

I wish a loves was closer. The one in Forest lake is $.40 cheaper than my town, but 45 minutes away.

Fuel delivery to your shop?

I'm looking into it.

My neighbor has 2 tanks from logging days that I might acquire.

Will be looking into Off road gas for chipper, stumper, mix- fuel. Road tax is expensive.
If you're getting second hand tanks make sure they get serviced. Diesel grows an algae if it sits long enough that means death for your fuel systems.

You’re a diesel tech right? I’ve been told this but never fully explained. Algal growth doesn’t get filtered out and plugs injectors??
Once it starts it's endemic and hard to stop. It plugs filters, injectors, lines... It's like the black death on an air conditioning system. Once it's there you have to replace most of the system. All it takes is a small amount missed when trying to clean/treat for it to pop back up. And it can hurt the engine if it runs that way for any length of time.

My neighbor has gas in one. Don't know if both have been diesel in the past.

How/ where are they serviced?

They're normally serviced by whoever fills them, so kinda like bulk propane. If they're old or haven't been serviced in the past, they come out, drain it, treat it, clean it, then refill it. Good tanks have filters built in, and should be insulated or kept out of the weather and direct sunlight as much as feasible. They make treatment stuff to keep algae from growing in it, but once it starts growing the tank needs to be completely redone. Rust and other particulates are a big deal too, particularly since ethanol and biodiesel encourage water and condensate. Depending on the volume you go through, just changes in weather can cause issues as dead air space allows for water vapor to collect, allowing things to grow and degrade.

You could check to see who's been servicing the tanks to begin with, as someone has to be coming out to fill them. It may be more cost effective to lease a new set of tanks, as some savings now could cost tens of thousands if it blows an engine up.
