First truck and chipper

I just got my first truck and chipper in the past month. Wondering what yall think. The truck is a 75' Ford T tag. Needed the rear right brake line replaced, has little leaks here and there, and minor rust in the cab corners. Paid 2,000 for it. The Chipper I'm unsure on the manufacturer. I'm assuming it's a 70's model based on the look. It has a Wisconsin Vh4d engine and a rockford clutch. No Blower attached to it. It has a push button starter and no key. Stated right up, chips good. Came with extra blades, paid 1000. Now that I've got them both I'm going to build the box up on the truck and repaint them both. Do yall think these were good deals?

This truck is a lot of fun to drive. It's the only thing I've ever driven that doesn't have power stirring lol! Also the first dump truck I've ever used that has a choke on the dash! It's a 360 4 speed. I know very little about engines and trucks so I figured this will be a great place to jump in. The chipper seems really straightforward and easy to work on, not a whole lot of moving parts there. Anyone have any feedback on that wisconsin engine? I hear they are solid industrial engines for which you can still get any part new?
 
We have a couple old sprayers with Wisconsin engines, 35 horse I think. They haven't been used in a while, but were always reliable. They were known as "The Cadillac of air cooled engines" in their day. Yours looks to be in great shape considering its age.
 
Buy a torque wrench...those 35 horsey powered wisconsins like to blow head gaskets and crack heads...easy fix though. You will just need the chart with the torque spec and sequences...i had it until about a month ago; sorry. Also keep the cap dry, they hate moisture and run like crap until they dry or you take them apart and spray it down with wire drier.

Wisconsin is a good engine. Keep the fins clean, valves adjusted, gas fresh. Do NOT jump start. Charge the battery first. If you have to jump it, unplug the voltage regulator and disconnect the jumper as soon as it starts, then reconnect the regulator.
The 360 is a great engine that should last you just fine. $3000 for that rig is a great price.

You got it! All the tags are on the chipper and the one on the drum is all but faded but i can make out "........more" First word def has 4 letters. That's so awesome you knew that! Were they manufactured in the 70s? I have been researching trying to find the manufacture for a while and have never heard of that company. I just painted the chipper black and it turned out looking really sharp. The person I got it from took really good care of it, changing fluids regularly and keeping it out of the weather. They put a sliding trap door on the chute to make it easy to unclog it which seems nice but it hasn't clogged on me yet.
 
Nice starter set but you need to get on with the box build. You don't want to be that guy that puts it on half dump and adds a tarp and covers the intersection with sprayed chips. Treeman, plumber, electrician, mechanic, ....carpenter...

Cal Tree is right I think too, and never seen a Wisconsin on a Mitts either.

And...may note, some of those side trap doors were set up to spray chips sideways into the woods.
 
I've got the box built, you can check it out in my other thread. I'm def not going to be 'that guy' of any sort. I know what you speak of with trap doors that shoot into the woods, all the chippers we use at work have those. This isn't a side shoot of any kind, just a little sliding door added by the previous owner. The chipper has no blower so I was told it'll clog occasionally and this trap door is suppose to make it real easy to unclog. Seems like a great add on
 
I have a 35 hp Wisconsin on my 65 bandit chipper. Works awesome, zero complaints thus far.

3K for a truck/chipper sounds pretty good to me! I hope they last for you brother.
 
So, I was wrong when I labeled this a T Tag. Our local mechanics got a pretty good chuckle outta me calling it that. It's actually a f350. The guy who sold it to me called it a t tag and that's why I went with it. It worked out really well that it cost 3k because right before finding them I sold my Mazda b4000 pick up for 3k. Essentially traded it in for a truck and chipper. Boy do I miss having a pick up truck tho. Thanks for all the positive feedback and advice yall. Just another reason why I love the buzz board.
 
I need a low buck setup just like that. Don't do this full time. But I've loaded way to pine trees on a trailer in the last month. Would love to find a rig that ....
 
In 1975 it was a T_Tag. Pennsylvania used to class their truck registrations with letter designations indicating gross weight ratings. Better educate your mechanic.
 
That's funny. Seems younger mechanics know less and less about older trucks. When I went to the auto parts store to buy new points the kid behind the counter told me he had never heard of that and was pretty sure I was just confused. I asked to speak to the older dude and ended up getting what I needed from him
