Fear cost me a job with a company today

Lot of good posts in this thread. Just keep at it Monkey. It took me a long time, a number of terrified discussions in my head, and a lot of broken personal barriers to get back to where I am now after my fall. Sounds like you may have found the right work environment to help get you there.
The only thing I didn’t see touched on was: while none of us wants to die - are you okay with dying? I know we are all bad ass tree people and all but I go through a little ritual right before I climb where I thank the tree for its life and promise to make it a quick and respectful end. Then I take a moment to center myself, find gratitude and contentment for the life I have lived so far, kiss my wife (she’s usually my groundie), tell her I love her, and head up. I find that if I am prepared to possibly die that the fear isn’t as controlling.

Funny thing is a fatal fall doesn't really scare me. It's falling and surviving a really bad fall that could have permanent consequences that scares me.

To go back to the OP's title...

My two cents, nothing cost you anything.

You are not a lead climber.
You may become a lead climber.

A different way of looking at this could have a thread title of...
"I'm building my way up to being a lead climber and need help with my mental game. Advice?

I think I took you about the Rock Warrior's Way by Arno Ilgner.

I started climbing trees, and some big trees, jumping in deep, with both feet.

Before that, I had 10 + years climbing rocks, hard.

Stuff takes time.

Getting in over your head too much, and then beating yourself up over it is counter-productive.

Did you cut the coffee?
Consider meditation and mindful breathing, with breathing exercises in the tree?

Well that’s really weird as those lower heights are the ones that are most likely to leave you crippled. 60’ and above there’s not much hope. My fall was 25’ and I deal with back pain daily. Now as I am writing this though, I do recall a period in my recovery where I would be totally uncomfortable in the 45-60’ range but fine once I was over that. Maybe what you need is to do a rec climb with someone you trust who will literally pull you up through that zone (and be able to rescue you if you totally panic). Other than that, as everyone else has said, it’s a mileage issue. Go to the very edge of your comfort zone and hang out - have some lunch, read a book, browse the internet, whatever.

This part i like. I sit at the base of the tree and lean back and feel the sapstream merge with my spinal fluid.

yeah... chakras and jesus... we are lost here. zero empirical evidence to prove the existence of jesus or chakras, just shows how powerful belief can be like placebo drugs... you are probably afraid in the tree because you have embarked upon an idiotic journey and have significantly increased your chances of injury or death by climbing up there... as guy puts it your "gut and instinct" are a bad influence?? what? self preservation instinct no good?

Brain is more powerful; and accurate! Gut instinct aka fear, greed...anti-science, btw. ;)

Chakras are associated with major glands--tons of science, since Paracelsus! 7th chakra - pineal gland, look it up!

joezilla, I never went to sleep, but was reborn in the top of the tree. OP needs to get the view from the top, breathe it in, love the power of altitude!

surprised to hear you promoting pseudo science, guy... I know all about the pineal gland hype and new age chakra bs. Yes, glands are real, we have them, there is "tons of science" pertaining to glands. exactly 0 empirical evidence to support the existence of chakras... I read wheels of life when I was fifteen and believed it for awhile but opened my eyes to see the new age movement and it's many heads are phony bs perverted bastardized and glorified versions of real things.

Your brain can convince you lies are true, your brain is a trickster that makes you think you're super smart, guy. Your gut on the other hand, never lies.

Original Post still sounds like an amazing employee to me - one which tons of companies would love to have. With the one exception that he thinks he should do something that his body is telling him he should not. Hope you're able to cure that little flaw. :)

Edit - Think there is a whole forum on here of people you can call in to climb rotten trees and shock load them, Other forums have wingsuit fliers that will fly by and pick the pine cones off one at a time. :)

Study of energy centers is ancient--not "new age". Embrace of mechanistic reasoning to biological science sounds newagey to me.

Your gut never lies--really? O that's right; all it can do is digest, or puke. LOL!
But there's nothing to argue here--the terms are undefinable.

Zero empirical evidence guy= pseudoscience at best. If you really knew about ancient studies of energy centers you may know that some believe the gut is a conscious control center. As a matter of fact there is legit scientific evidence that supports this ancient claim. Perhaps if your biom were in better shape you could trust your gut rather then your silly brain. I'm not really holding my breath though, I know your ego is bigger than the internet. as you say, LOL.

To feel at home in treetops, get up there and swing around a little!
And drink in the views.

Gut = 3rd chakra. I like to tune into #4-8 more. Biome is fine thanks; so that area does not need much attention.
**But there's nothing to argue here--the terms are undefinable. **

hmm, a term that cannot be defined.... how mystical... sounds like some more hocus pocus bs...

LOL, guy, LOL.
