every used two portys on one tree?

we have a removal next week and there are 2 large branches over a roof and are gonna need to set up 2 rigging lines. we have a large and a medium porty. im wondering what would be the best configuration to set up 2 on one trunk?

Re: every used to portys on one tree?

thats what i thought at first but im thinking i might need to use a redirect because when both ropes get loaded its going to push the 2 portys together. any creative ideas to prevent this from happening?

Re: every used to portys on one tree?

Just try it you'll like it. Actually they should run off at different angles to different places or the portawraps will end up at different heights naturally anyway. No more running back and forth it'll make the tree feel like a puppet on a string.

Re: every used to portys on one tree?

Put them on opposite sides of the trunk, if the trunk is wide enough so they can't reach each other. One far left side, one far right side. I don't see why a redirect wouldn't work. I guess you are probably dealing with a smaller dbh tree? If I couldn't get them to not touch I'd find somewhere else to anchor the second one, if there is anywhere.

Re: every used to portys on one tree?

You can anchor one in the tree canopy and one at the base, too. After the climber cuts, the climber can release the tie-off and run one rope while the groundie runs the other, and if you have a third worker, you have one person totally free to land the piece.

You could maybe use a spiderleg balancer to then only need one porty, possibly with a control line.

Re: every used to portys on one tree?

Here ya go.
Notice, both slings are anchored so when they are loaded, they pull against the bight of the hitch.
Bottom sling is anchored with a cow hitch.
Top sling is anchored with a timber hitch with 2 turns at the throat. If a timber hitch is used, 2 turns at the throat secures the hitch better.
The log in the foreground was lowered with the 2 porty's, tip tie/butt tie.

Re: every used to portys on one tree?

place a pulley with a dead eye sling around the trunk above each portawrap and it will hold the lines in place and the porty's separated.

climb safe

Re: every used to portys on one tree?

Dude I used the two turns around the throat trick 2 days ago with heavier wood and it added a lot of security to my use of a timber hitch. I failed one once many years ago loading it away from the bite and have been leary of it since. Thanks Uncle.
