Escalator Vs HTP access rope

So far I’m finding that my ascents and descents are working nice with the wrench, But when I go to work the tree horizontally I’m not liking the feel. When trying to tend slack out on a limb I find it difficult to take up slack, also when I go out on a long reach horizontally the wrench with the detachable pin seems to bite into the rope hard, not allowing for smooth action. I had my hitch completely open when I was experiencing this. If I’m not mistake on the horizontal movement the wrench worked better with the original bushing not with the pin, allowing for less of a bend and bite in the rope, I will try this combo out again to compare and or put a sleeve over the pin to make the bend radius bigger. Also the escalator seems to have a lot more memory than HTP. I'll keep you all updated as I give this line a fair shot

Lonniels I would love to here some more feed back as how you have your combo set up. Do you have the detachable thin pin or are you running it Stock with the original bushing?

Goodaking,

I am running a pin out of an old Gibbs ascender. I drilled out the hole to 3/8 and just use that pin. I dont know the size of the thin pin, but I find my pin works great. I adjusted the wrench so that the bushings or pins are touching the rope, but not tight. I hope this helps.

Lonneals, how many climbs have you had on it so far? I just took another test spin on this thing and it’s driving me nuts. I popped the bushing back on the wrench to give it more surface to run on. Up and downs are great and I love the feel of the escalator in my hand as I ascend. But when you go to do anything horizontally and especially when you are climbing close to the height of your redirect, it is a pain in the A$$ to tend slack or get some slack. This line has mad memory that I’m not liking, for example like little waves that the wrench gets hooked up on. Anyone have any experience with 11mm HTP? I love the way my 10mm runs with the wrench and wood like to get something comparable in function but a little bigger for the hand?

PS Bull are you running the wrench on your Escalator?

I have had probably 15 climbs on it mainly short to medium trees. I have not experienced anything but positive from it. The only time i notice the memory is when I put it back in the bag. Maybe give it some time?
