Enjoying the Snow

Location
Minnesota
Today was the first big snowstorm of the season in Minnesota. We got about 8 inches of the white fluffy stuff today and it is still falling. I have been quivering with anticipation to get out my snowshoes and today I finally was able to. I pretended to be a proffesional photographer and brought out my 35mm and my digital cameras with me. Hope you enjoy.

I was trying out the b&w option on my digital. This is the stream running through my backyard.

I'd show you a picture of the creek in my back yard, but I doubt anyone wants to look at a concrete drainage ditch. Nice pictures, better "back yard"

Thanks Adam, youve always been a true friend. I will be in Point on Friday. Maybe I can help you prepare for your ent final by bringing some vodka or something.

8" is that all we got 12 our first storm and we still worked during it. No not emergency jobs normal everyday jobs.

I am guessing that you dont get to much of that in. During the year. You must have to get out on the early ice. How thick is the ice before you can go out?

I push it a bit and go out on some thin stuff. I'm comfortable on 3" because the weight is spread out. I wear a life jacket and carry screwdrivers for picks. I've never gone in but had a friend drive into open water once. I thought he knew about it since he lived right there. Fortunately we had a briefing beforehand. Discussed the strategy of getting the mittens off so you can undue the seatbelt.

You're right---not much ice time. There have been a few years when I've got my fill. Not this one.

By the way, nice backyard.

Don't you have a job yet Ryan? Nice pics, Ansel Adams look out!

Wish this was my backyard

I actually put my Ansel Adams poster on the wall yesterday, its what gave me my inspiration. Or something like that.

I dont have a real job yet. I work parttime at the local newspaper to pay the bills. I am looking at Grad schools right now, and looking for jobs. But I am enjoying the freetime!

My immediate ancestry owned a large chunk of what is now Highland Park (the farm house is still third from the corner of Bayard on Hamline so far as I know). I was born in St. Paul and visited the grandparents there regularly. One such day in late winter I was watching the news and they were interviewing a guy who was obviously a little drunk as the wrecker was pulling his car out of the lake. He'd been out fishing and the ice got too thin around the edge during the day. The reporter asked how he felt about having his car go for a swim and he said "I don't give a damn; it's my wife's car." I bet there was peace in their house that night! hahaha!
